A Squirrel Portrait in the Snow

This is such a great action shot of a squirrel, isn't it?
I know they are pests if you have a bird feeder
but this one just seems to be enjoying a
romp in the snow. photo source

I just checked my phone for a weather report and it's very confusing. We are either going to have snow all day or snow turning to rain depending on the temperature. Should be interesting. Either way, it's going to be messy. I vote for neither. Don't forget tonight is the beginning of Season 2 of All Creatures Great and Small on PBS. Plus Episode 2 of Around the World in 80 Days. I will be watching both! xo

Yes, it is a lovely photo. I love their big eyes and furry tails. However, I have a love-hate relationship with squirrels as they torment the birds in my garden feeding at my bird feeder. I love my birds: robins, blackbirds who sing so beautifully at dusk, blue tits, wrens, etc. I am forever chasing them away but they are so clever, acrobatic and persistent! aarrgh!!

He's adorable, Rosemary. I know some people think of them as pests, but I love the squirrels in my back yard. I recently lost a very old oak tree that straddled my property with my next door neighbor's property. It was a habitat for lots of squirrels and other wild neighbors. So sad to lose a beautiful old oak, and it provided privacy and much needed shade in the warmer months. We've lost quite a few old trees as of late, due to the drought, I suppose. I guess they just become parched and dry up on the inside, then when we get lots of rain, it soaks the dry wood and they fall over. Thank you for the cute squirrel post, and I hope the weather is mild in your neck of the woods.

I know they can be pesky, but I love watching squirrels. I'll have to show my granddaughter, Anna, this picture, Rosemary. She's a big fan of squirrels. Crossing my fingers about your weather.

Jenny Mein -- Once they discover a feeder it is almost impossible to get rid of them. I think every bird lover has a love/hate relationship with squirrels. Your birds sound lovely and I understand your angst. My weather was just a little misting of rain so it was no problem. xo, Rosemary

Lisa D. -- That is so sad about your losing an old oak tree. I adore acorns so you lost those too. I am glad you liked the squirrel photo since you have them at your house and have a fondness for them. No bad weather today at my cottage, just a misting of rain. xo, Rosemary
