Adventures with My New Printer

Three agonizing weeks ago I got a new printer and yesterday I finally got it to work properly without really knowing what I did! As you know, I am technically oriented but it wasn't at all easy because the printer is wireless and I had a very hard time getting it to work with my laptop and I haven't even tried it with my phone yet. Yesterday I tried printing the alphabet photo in my living room from my laptop and it magically printed upstairs in my office where my desktop computer and printer reside. I liked the print so much I hung it on a cabinet wall in my pantry office off my kitchen. I still don't trust the printer completely and need to practice more so I will be a confident operator when I really need it. I loved my old wired printer but it decided to stop working quite abruptly and I couldn't fix it and you know I tried! I think I'm going to end up loving the new one, fingers crossed.🤞 Wish me luck.☘️ NOTE: The alphabet I printed is on regular computer paper. The angle of the picture makes it look much larger.

If you sign up for an HP+ INSTANT INK plan within 7 days of installing your printer, you get 6 months of free ink and one more year on the warranty which brings it up to 2 years. I decided to bite the bullet and sign up before I mastered THE MACHINE. I can do unlimited printing (up to 700 pages) the first 6 months and they sent replacement inks right away and the cartridges are twice the size of the ones that came with the printer. I signed up for 100 pages per month after the first 6 months is over and that is when the first billing begins. I think that will be fine and if I go over it doesn't cost very much. You have to sign up with a credit card and my plan is $4.95 per month. I can cancel at any time too. So it sounds like a win win to me. I think all of the newest HP wireless printers come with this plan. Click to enlarge the photo to see the box.
I watched countless YouTube videos and each one had a helpful hint assisting me with the installation. The most interesting hint that the setup never mentioned was a little slider you have to push up against the left side of the paper to hold it in place!!!! You have to change it when using smaller sizes of paper for note cards or photos. I NEVER would have found that by myself and there was no mention in the instructions.
If there is a hinge on the scanner for thick items like books, I have yet to find it.
You have to download the HP SMART App too. I have it on my laptop, my desktop computer and my phone as well. I am still learning about this.
The printer was $99 at BestBuy. This is not a recommendation or a paid ad in any way. It's just a review of the one I bought. You can spend more or you can spend less. This seemed just right for me.

THANK YOU

Have a great weekend.
It rained most of Friday night.
Today is nice and cool.

I'm so glad your new printer worked for you! We have a persnickety old printer that only "listens" to 2 of our 3 laptops. That desk area with the window above it is such a great space, Rosemary! Happy weekend to you!!

Did your printer print the alphabet poster on your wall, Rosemary? What are the dimensions?

I will take your story to heart while I set-up my own wireless printer!

And its so nice to see someone else with the old Virginia Metalcrafters monogram trivets - I think they are classics and have a few myself.

Keep cool, Rosemary!

That alphabet picture is perfect in that room! *oh how I love your pantry & office:) We just today gave up on trying to get our computer connected (LONG story) and called in a Comcast tech - but I bet you could fix it:) Happy weekend! Karen

I can identify with your printer issues because last year I purchased a new printer. I have had wireless printers for years, but I wanted a printer that was better at printing my photos. I have had some that were easy to set up, & others that were a nightmare. My current printer wasn't awful, but there were some bumps in the road.

I would be interested to know what kind you purchased for future reference. I believe I will always want to have the ability to print things, not just photos, but also letters & documents.

...all is grace!

Pam -- Go to this site and install HP SMART on the 2 laptops that don't communicate properly with your printer.

Let me know if it works.

Karen -- I hope the Comcast Technician can get your computer connected. I feel your pain since I lost a Windows Computer years ago and it could not be revived no matter what I tried. It was running Windows XP and Microsoft was no longer providing updates or help. I replaced it with an iMac desktop and now I am Apple IOS all the way. The only thing I really miss is Microsoft Word. I still have my license information when WORD and MICROSOFT OFFICE were shipped free with all Windows computers. They no longer honor my license and I think it's sad they now want you to rent it for the rest of your life instead of offering a one-time purchase! Getting off my soap box now.

I'll be jiggered, that "persnickety" computer just needed some help. I went to the site you recommended, Rosemary, and simply followed the directions. We're in business. Thank you very, very much!!

Pam -- I am THRILLED the link helped your two laptops that were only listening to your wireless printer snap to it and start printing. SUCCESS. They just needed a boost.

Unknown -- I have a 14-piece collection of Virginia Metalcrafter trivets, especially the Monogram ones. You can only find them at house sales and they are usually well priced. They are beautiful and so very useful as well. Glad to hear you admire them too.

We have a wireless HP printer and I've lately had a lot of trouble with it. Our IT (son) says the IP address keeps changing. I'm kind of tired of fighting with it. It was great the first 2 years and now every week it seems to have a problem. I hope yours works as it should.

Karen -- Maybe the HP SMART app will work for you. I was trying to set up my laptop with my IP address but it didn't work. Once I got my printer set up correctly my wireless printer address comes up with the HP NAME OF MY PRINTER instead of the IP address.

Go this YouTube person called TECHNOLOGY TIPS to see if he has setup instructions for your printer. If your printer is only 2 years old, he probably does.

I finally got my air printer working by reinstalling it as a new printer. I didn't delete the old setup either.

Good luck. Don't give up.
