This home looks beautiful inside and out! I need to research painting hardwood floors. Our smallest bedroom has an oak floor that I'd love to experiment with.
It's curious that I don't like this painted floor as I'm usually drawn to them. It's the LARGE diamonds that (for me) detract from the area by drawing my eyes way too much to the floor, to the floor, to the floor! But it's just an illustration of how we're all different . . . and should be allowed to have what appeals to our own personal preferences!
Mama Pea -- I found another entrance hall with even larger black diamonds. I added it to the post. Take a look and see if you like it or not. It is more centered and the door is painted black too. I think you might like it. I think symmetry was lacking in the photo you didn't like and that was throwing you off. xo, Rosemary
Rosemary, further proof you have such a good eye. You're absolutely correct that I never would have commented on disliking the floor of the second photo. The symmetry and the door painted black made all the difference.

Pam -- How exciting to hear you are considering painting a floor. Good luck with your research!
