Great Garden - Planted from Seeds

Everything in this great garden was grown from seeds. I have worked outside for the past two days weeding and enlarging and planting. Now I am ready to open some seed packets! Have a great weekend! xo

Growing fresh, delicious food in the garden is so satisfying. It can be hard work, but it's worth it. A few years ago, my strawberry patch simply wasn't producing really good tasting berries any more. It broke my heart, but I dug every plant up and composted them. Last year, I noticed a few small strawberry plants coming up in random spots. I gently transplanted them to their own bed and they just grew like crazy last summer. I've been watching them like a hawk--looking for red berries, and yesterday there were a handful that were ready. I took them straight into the kitchen, washed them off and tried them. YES! That old aroma and flavor are back in this new patch. It was a hallelujah moment for me! Sorry to go on so long, but you're a gardener, Rosemary, and I know you'll understand the joy of "redeeming" what seemed to be a lost cause. Good luck with your garden.

Pam -- Thank you for such a great garden rescue story singing the praises of compost and strawberries straight from the garden. I have been doctoring my oldest English boxwood with compost tea from the seepage tray under my bin and it is working. The discolored patches are turning green right before my eyes. Gardening is hard work and good exercise and so very rewarding.

Is that your garden, Rosemary?! Very impressive, I must say. I have some back issues, so I have to be careful about bending down to the ground. I usually wear a back brace, but I still don't seem to last that long.

I'll bet you'll see continued improvement in your boxwood. Although there are many gardening products available, it's really hard to beat compost for long lasting results. Fingers crossed for your boxwood.

Lisa D -- No, that is not my garden. Click on the link within my post to see the actual owner. At the beginning of gardening season, my back bothers me but I persist and eventually my back gets stronger. There is no better exercise than gardening. I gave my boxwood a big dose of compost tea yesterday. I really love the idea of composting and getting the reward of free fertilizer that is truly organic.
Take it easy with your back and don't overdo anything. Are you on Instagram? There is a young fitness trainer I follow who shows easy exercises with no equipment and he has many to strengthen your back. He has 430,000 followers. Check him out on Instagram: @justinagustin (his name is Justin Agustin) Many of his workouts are on the couch!
Good Luck, Rosemary

That is a beautiful garden, but I wonder if there is a 24 hour sentry on duty against critters. My garden has an 8 foot fence around it and still, I went out yesterday to see all sunflowers eaten, peas nibbled, kale eaten, etc. I get so frustrated. I know even the critters need to eat, but can't they eat cicadas or grass! Love your blog, by the way.
