Cooper's Hawk Staring at Me

COOPER'S HAWK VISIT TODAY
He didn't stay long but I got quite a few poses. I wonder if he could see me through the window glass into my living room when I was photographing or if he could only see his reflection. He never flinched and I got quite a few shots just like this one only with his head looking in different directions. I know he is a predator of small birds but he didn't seem interested and was looking far away. I hope he spotted some mice because, as you all know by now, I am afraid of them. He last visited me on December 26th. The little birds came right back as soon as he flew away. This is my excitement for the day. xo

Oh my goodness, how exciting. Hawks are one of my favorite birds. We must remember that each member of the animal kingdom serves a purpose. They are so majestic. It's amazing how many wonderful bird pictures you have been able to get...I am a bit envious.

...all is grace!

This photo is mesmerizing, I would say he made for a rather exciting day. My exciting day was taking Ken to get a sandwich and making some banana blueberry muffins. I had many other things that I could have doe but didn't

Now that is one handsome bird! When we watch the hawks around our home, we see them hunting mice--and even small snakes in warmer weather. We have lots of smaller birds that seem at ease around the hawks. I'm guessing that the little birds may be down on their list of favorite foods, but I don't know that for sure.

I have about 3 coming in my garden, they are big enough.long time ago when I had hens, they’ ve eaten all my chicks. Between them and foxes coming from the forest behind us , I gave up.

Thank you for your comments -- all six (6) of you! I shoveled half of my balcony yesterday and the other half is still piled high with a foot of snow that never melted. More snow is coming tomorrow but they say it will only be 4to8 inches so that's nothing too worrisome for me. Stay safe and warm and I hope Texas has power soon if not already. I haven't heard the news yet today.

Catherine -- I have several friends that lost all of their chickens due to Hawks. They all gave up, just like you. I have foxes on my property too so I will stick with feeding the birds.

Pam -- I'm hoping you are right about my birds not being this hawk's favorite snacks.
