I gathered these seed pods yesterday morning and I couldn't believe the size of this bunch after only three days. Needless to say, I will have plenty of seeds for next years poppy patch. Have a wonderful July 4th.
Growing food and flowers is such a good use of our time and energy. My son recently planted a large bed of wild flowers and is already being rewarded with amazing color. He sent me a picture and said he's thinking about adding another wildflower bed. All good! Have a wonderful 4th of July, Rosemary! By the way, your collection of poppy pods even looks artistic sitting on your counter. You have the touch.
What an absolutely beautiful photograph Rosemary! It could be a painting...so subtle with its warm neutrals & hints of green & pink. Have a wonderful Fourth of July!

And you could sprinkle your poppy seeds into a long bed in and among other plants and all the red popping up would be gorgeous! Happy 4th! Susan
Hi Rosemary, I save seeds from my poppies each year. I let them go brown on the plant until they rattle. The gaps around the top frill open and I just shake them into a bag. My question is .... you have picked the pods green do the seeds mature? Regards J.
minwks -- Janine, I'm so glad you posted this question. I have no idea whether or not my green poppy pods will dry out and have mature seeds inside. I read that if you cut off the pods, the plants will continue to flower so that is what I've been doing. From now on, I will let the pods mature on the plants until they rattle before I pick them. I will keep an eye on my green picked ones to see if they ever rattle. xo, Rosemary
