Borzoi Father's Day

If dogs celebrated Father's Day, this would be a happy day in this Borzoi household. They are also knows as Russian Wolfhounds. It's a wonderful family portrait, isn't it? via And a great article about this breed here.

How did they ever get them to sit still like that? Charming. I was looking at your Ig post about the deer. This spring I've been working on ways to keep them out of my tiny yard. I think the lockdown and decreased traffic, including on the nearby train tracks, has encouraged them to go exploring in our dense, suburban neighborhood. I came across this info which I found helpful: https://savvygardening dot com/deer-proof-gardens/ All sorts of strategies. I'm not fond of deer, as I saw first hand, in my parents' yard, how amazingly destructive they can be. I do so enjoy seeing how your garden is doing. It would be sad to have the deer devour it all. Happily, they don't like lady's mantle.

Regal looking dogs....

Some of the best family portraits I have seen were photos a woman took of her children's Calico Critters families. :)

Linda Sand -- I'm quite sure those cat family photos were wonderful.

Just a wee catnap -- Almost everything I have planted is deer resistant. The deer always browse on my Limelight but they didn't eat much last night. I have some Liquid Fence somewhere and I'm going to mix up a batch and spray tomorrow. I agree, they are a nuisance and it's heartbreaking when they eat something they love. I'll read your article tomorrow. Thanks so much.

Beside a babbling brook -- Yes. They are very regal looking and so well behaved too.

Wonderful picture. I just adore all animals. I didn't think there were plants that were truly dear resistant, except the poisonous ones. My experience has been that if they are hungry enough, they will eat anything at the salad bar. I put up a fence around my property a few years ago because they were just decimating my garden. I now have an uneaten garden, but I have to say, I really do miss the mama deer and their babies. There were two does, each with twins, walking up my street the other day. They were so adorable!

lisa, There is plenty for the deer to eat on my land without invading my flower beds. I had to move one Limelight three times before finding a spot in a raised garden where the deer can't enter. The one they nibble on is way too big so I really don't care. I cut it back myself last week and now I will just tidy up what they nibbled on over the weekend. I live in an area where most properties are surrounded by deer fencing but my cottage is adjacent to parkland and a bridle path and I don't want fencing because I consider it all to be mine. I have rabbits and woodchucks too and my woods are an owl habitat. I just refer to the deer resistant lists when consider new additions to my garden and hope for the best. There are more white tailed deer in this country now than when the Pilgrims landed and they are a huge problem. The ticks they carry are my biggest fear. I'm glad your fencing has allowed you to have a garden again.

Those hounds are so cute, and they all look to be about the same age (except for the adult dog). Could they possibly be from one litter?

Pam -- I was assuming these pups were from one litter with one parent.
I added a link to the post for an interesting photo essay on the breed. xo, Rosemary
