Frog Mug

Yet another find from last weekend's estate sale. I have always wanted a frog mug since seeing my first one at a neighbor's house around 1976.

I am a very patient person, aren't I? My patience paid off and I got three frogs instead of a single one in the bottom like my neighbor had and two handles instead of one as well! I posted these photos on my Instagram yesterday so this will be a repeat for some but not all of you.

It needs to be filled with hot chocolate then handed to a child who won't see the frog until having already ingested a bunch of chocolate. Be ready to wipe up the mess if that child is a sensitive one.

Linda Sand -- My neighbor from long ago had three mugs with a frog on the bottom to encourage her three girls to drink all of their milk. It's such a good idea to be rewarded this way.

That is adorable! When I was a teacher, I had red bellied frogs as a classroom pet. They looked like the green fellow at the bottom of your mug. Little did I know how long they lived! I even had a pair that mated one summer and had to set up a second aquarium so the parents wouldn't eat all the babies. I must say I don't miss having to buy crickets every week.

stacey -- What a great story. I'm sure raising frogs and buying crickets was not in your job description. I have never heard of red bellied frogs but I'm sure they were fun pets to have in your classroom.

How fun, yes you are patient and of course you shop at the best places....estate sales, thrifts and on the side of the road and you have such a good eye. I do hope you use your frog filled mugs often as I'm sure they put a smile on your face each time your finish your beverage of choice. Your froggy filled mug reminds me of the time a few years ago when I went to get some water from my kitchen faucet one morning and there was a small frog or maybe it was a toad in my kitchen sink. What a surprise, I never quite figured out how it appeared there.
