Scrimshaw double heart mourning pendant, 1807
“Beauty and youth in vain to these you trust
For youth and beauty shall be laid in dust.“
This quote is so true. Growing old gracefully rather than trying to turn back the clock is quite a challenge at times.

This speaks to me loudly. To live in a time where there is such a consuming passion for holding back time and an unwillingness to grow old gracefully and appreciate the beauty and wisdom of those who lived long lives can really be disheartening. I was surprised when we moved to Utah to find that there was such a HUGE plastic surgery industry here. I'm just letting age take it's course, and yes I look in the mirror and don't always like what I see. I exercise, stay active, try to challenge the little gray cells and try to eat healthy. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it.
I love beautiful old things like this scrimshaw and hope that at least my children will look at me as a beautiful old thing.
