Mostly Martha + Zodiac : Two Great Kanopy Movies

MOSTLY MARTHA is a very entertaining movie about a controlling chef who is definitely not in control of her life.

This might be too violent for some or most of you but I like true crime movies. Click here to view the 2007 movie trailer before you decide to watch it.
'Zodiac" is the "All the President's Men" of serial killer movies, with Woodward and Bernstein played by a cop and a cartoonist. It's not merely "based" on California's infamous Zodiac killings, but seems to exude the very stench and provocation of the case. The killer, who was never caught, generously supplied so many clues that Sherlock Holmes might have cracked the case in his sitting room. But only a newspaper cartoonist was stubborn enough, and tunneled away long enough, to piece together a convincing case against a man who was perhaps guilty. read more here

I've seen the movie Zodiac and it's pretty intense. I don't think that case was ever really solved. The murders stopped and the authorities think that was because the perpetrator was either imprisoned for a lengthy time for something else, or he died. This is going to date me, but I grew up in the SF bay area and I'm old enough to have a conscious memory of the Zodiac killer - that, and the Manson murders - both truly horrifying and terrifying, especially for a very young person. I remember asking my father if those sorts of things happened when he was a young person, and he said no. The only thing he remembered was the kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh baby. What a different world we live in now.

Well, a new fascinating tidbit about you Rosemary...the love of true crime movies. I never would have guessed. I on the other hand just finished watching Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.....hahaha....I really like a couple of the actors that are in it and found it a highly entertaining although a rather silly take on Jane's book.

Thank you so much for the Movie recommendations. I am keeping up with you as fast as I can and loving everyone of them.
My husband and I have my Mother living with us now,it's so nice that we can all watch some enjoyable and suitable. We will tune into Zodiac when she goes to bed.

Rather than tomatoes, you'll have to issue springs of rosemary for your reviews. Can't say that I'm into the "gritty reality" movies, but I like your romantic picks. Means more to me than the Rotten Tomatoes scoring. I appreciate your taking the trouble to give us a heads up on good movies and tv shows. btw, what's your opinion of Grantchester?

justaweecatnap -- Grantchester will be over next week. They really packed in a lot of zingers in Sunday's episode. Next week, I hope they iron it all out. Everything is in a jumble now.
I have watched lots of movies that weren't very good so I am happy to share the ones I liked. It is very hard to find good ones. My sweet mother liked true crime shows on TV so I guess I get it from her. I like the detective work. I hope I can keep finding "feel good" movies to share. Those are my favorites.

Rosemary, did you ever watch the Homeland series with Clare Danes, Damian Lewis, and Mandy Patinkin? If you like thrillers based on real events, this would be my choice for the absolute best. I only watched it through Season 4, I believe, at which time I gave up my subscription to Showtime and most of those other channels. I recently re-subscribed, and started over from the beginning as there are so many twists and turns, I would have been lost otherwise. I highly recommend it.

lisa -- Yes. I have watched every episode of HOMELAND. I think there is one more season coming up and it will be the final. I have loved Clare Danes since MY SO CALLED LIFE.
My favorite spy thriller of all times is MI 5. It was called SPOOKS in the UK. There were 10 seasons. I watched them all through DVDs from my library, The female lead in the early episodes is now the mother in "The Durrells of Corfu" on PBS. She and the male star in the early episodes of "MI 5" are married and have 2 children.
