Dog Rules for My Friend Missy

I photographed this sign in the home of a friend who has a dog named Missy. She is shown below in a field of long grass on an exercise run. She's really well behaved in the house and isn't allowed on the furniture but she actually prefers the dog bed I gave her that belonged to Webster.

She's a rescue dog too. I'm still not ready to get one of my own but can visit Missy anytime.

Oh, does this ever hit home.

When my daughter's neighbors complained about her dog, Misty's barking, I agreed it might be best for Misty to come live with us since Lisa was at work all day and Misty was lonely.

Lisa's dad fixed a nice little fenced-in area for Misty complete with a lovely doghouse on a raised wooden deck. She barked all night.

Next, we moved her doghouse to the front deck of our house. There Misty was attacked by six raccoons during the night. We dashed downstairs, used the garden hose to get the raccoons to scatter. We brought her in the house. She was confined to the foyer.

Lastly, Misty was on a dog bed with lovely blankets in the kitchen. After dinner, she would join us in the family room.

Misty was a gentle black lab I loved with all my heart. She was perfect, almost mystical in her understanding of me. She went everywhere with me when cool enough to ride in my car. Best dog I ever had.

She's a sweetheart, and another member of the family.

I can think of many dogs and their owners who have followed those "Dog Rules" right down the line! Our last pet was a stray who adopted us. At first he was going to be a barn cat, but then winter came and he'd curl up outside, against the back door of our house. I couldn't bear to have him in the cold. I put an old sheet on the couch and he was the perfect gentleman. You know the rest of the story. I took him to the vet and got him all taken care of, and he ruled the roost for years. He passed away a few years ago and we still miss him. Not ready for another furry friend just yet. Rosemary, I understand about not being ready to take the plunge, but how sweet of you to gift Missy with Webster's bed. She has such a pretty face!

Our big black lab has the run of the house but was never invited onto the furniture or beds. But has very nice soft dog beds in every room. Most of them near windows with very low sills so he can rest his chin on the sill and monitor the birds and squirrels outside. He'll be 12 on April 4th.

You always have great dogs on your blog posts and I always enjoyed seeing Webster and his hot breakfasts.

I am happy you are getting closer. Webster wants you to get another rescue in his memory. Just so you know. What a gorgeous dog that is!

We have three dogs on our bed. And because we evacuated so many times to hotel rooms......now the cat wants to be on our bed also! He loved it with all of us together in one room! We now have only one cat.....one was too sick...and is at the bridge...and this one.....well. The bed is crowded!

Hahahahaha....Those rules absolutely apply to our grand dogs Echo who should really have been named Shadow. When he's in our house the only place he will sleep at night is at the foot of our bed...I never would have believed I would have allowed this to happen.

I am happy to watch our grand dogs and always happy to send them home as they are a lot of work. We've decided it's the perfect way to own a dog.
