I photographed this enclosed garden yesterday at high noon after touring a broker open house. I was waiting for the person who blocked me in to finish her tour. The driveway was long and the parking was quite a challenge. This garden probably doesn't get enough direct sun but I like the design. I would put down salt hay around the raised beds instead of having grass that would be hard to mow.

Oh yes, but if there is a deer issue this would be so great at keeping them out. Like you, be hard to mow. Probably uses the weedeater.
Pam Jackson -- There is a huge deer problem in this area. Especially with the woods in back of this garden.

Deer are such lovely creatures, but they sure wreak havoc on a garden. I finally built a tall fence around my property. That's the only true deer repellent you can bet on. (I do miss seeing the pretty little creatures, though - especially in the Spring when they would bring their little ones over to visit.)
Sigh! We had deer in Pasadena (not very many; but I treasured them. I planted roses just for them! I was afraid if they went to the rose garden in the front they were too close to the street! So I planted a row of iceberg roses on the canyon side of the garden. One evening we were walking the dogs around the garden and my husband said, "What happened to all those white roses that were there yesterday?" I exclaimed. "OH! They found them! I am so thrilled!" He said......"Who found them?" I said......with delight, "The deer!"
I know not everyone feels that way. We actually picked the lot we built on in Montecito because my agent said "There are deer in there" about the preserve next to us. Never have seen one. I adore them. I also have learned to like plants they do not like if they were going to eat everything.
We have a huge deer problem in my area of Michigan, too. I love the idea of this fenced garden, but like you, I was thinking about mowing the grass. I would brick the areas around the raised beds.
