Gail, northern california = Gail, Yes. It is usually something with a door that eventually becomes a catch-all. This open shelving is perfect. xo, Rosemary
I'm attracted to under stair usage too. I think the floors and front door are pretty in this entry also.
When I was 9, I convinced my mom that under the stairs would make for a very nice little bedroom for me. She allowed it for about 4 months and then she wanted her storage space back. But for 4 months I had this sweet space I could call my own, kind of a big deal because I had to go back to the girls bedroom which I shared with two sisters. Now that I think about it, I was kind of Harry Potter before Harry was a thought.
I like this idea also, but a year or so ago I had my under-stairs area turned into storage space for things (such as vacuum cleaner, tool box, etc.) that needed to be stored out of sight. What I really need is a small room to turn into laundry/storage room, but unfortunately no way to expand in my townhouse. So the closet is serving a good purpose.
JudyMac -- Judy, I understand. We all need a handy place for frequently used tools and cleaning items that can't be left out in the open. You can't have it all, so we must do the best we can with the space we've got. xo, Rosemary

Excellent use for what is normally wasted space.
