I've been meaning to stop and photograph this sweet cottage I pass when going to the Post Office to pick up my mail and today I pulled over. There were a few cars behind me and I waved for them to go around me so I could get a decent photo. The cottage is close to the road so I cropped out the asphalt. I love the old-fashioned flower garden with beautiful hollyhocks, don't you? Click on photo to enlarge.

So pretty!
So sweet. Is that what they call a "saltbox"? Is it an original?
Gail, northern California -- Gail, I can't say for sure if it's a saltbox without seeing the back. From the front, it looks like a Cape Cod and yes, it is an original. There is a small stretch of early cottages close to the road all dating to the 18th and early 19th centuries. Each one maintains its early roots.

Oh my, that makes it even more precious. I wonder how many owners over its lifetime. Must have quite a history. Speaks volumes for general care and maintenance.
And, now this sweet place clearly is loved. Looks like a new roof. The siding seems well maintained and those hollyhocks stole my heart, too.
A very happy place.
So happy you made this stop on your way to or from the post office.
