I cleaned out my fireplace this weekend and set a fire for the upcoming chilly weather. The one in this photo is gorgeous, isn't it? I never did polish my andirons when I was on that polishing marathon in the spring. Too late now, that ship has sailed. Smile. photo source

Great minds think alike...I had the chimney sweep guy here last week. Always such a good feeling knowing he's cleaned and checked the chimney flue. Plus, he's a very nice man. Been cleaning chimneys for years and has quite a client list. We have to get in line. He's a dying breed I'm afraid.
I'm glad you didn't polish your andirons, I like brass to have a more aged and tarnished look. We no longer have a wood burning fireplace and know we that we will miss those real fires on a winter's eve. We do have a fairly nice gas fireplace, it is better for the air quality here in Utah. In the winter they have these smoggy foggy nasty air inversions in the SLC valley. During those weeks I don't think you are even allowed to have fires in wood burning fireplaces.
I agree, the posted fireplace is so inviting and it also has a knock out fireback too.
I prefer the andirons.....unpolished. I call it "patina"! Love this fireplace....it is perfect!
Including its unpolished andirons!!
Just beautiful!!!
What would you have polished them with? I have some that I just picked up at a brocante and need to buff back to life.
Gorgeous! I love a fire, my fireplace happens to be gas, but it does such a wonderful job, and we really do enjoy it in the winter. We use it to "knock the chill off" early every morning, and have our coffee nearby. Hope you have a lovely week. I love your blog, by the way!!
Oh,if only our weather here in northern Minnesota would cool off enough to think about having a cheery fire! We just came in from corralling the poultry and locking them up for the night and it was so warm and humid out there that it was unpleasant. I am so ready for crisp, cool weather this year!
Mama Pea -- I agree with you. I weeded yesterday for a very long time and it was quite pleasant and I had lots of energy. The humidity really drags me down. It's nice and breezy again today with storm clouds overhead and we might get a little rain later. I am more than ready to say good bye to summer and I am looking forward to a long fall season to transition into winter. I hope you have gotten some relief by now.
