Gorgeous Day at My Cottage

We have a glorious week ahead of us. No rain for 7 straight days and daytime temps in the 60s and 70s. Yippee. I see a lot of raking in my future and maybe some mowing towards the end. I like to crunch up the leaves with my Snapper in certain areas instead of raking them. The American chestnut has dropped all of its leaves on my lower driveway and I must rake them because all of those dreadful pricker balls are hurting poor Webster's feet. He tries to dodge them but there are way too many.

It is so beautiful!

Rosemary, your "outback" is just beautiful. My area is beginning to get some color and looking somewhat like yours across from my front door. It's beautiful in the morning with the sunlight shining through the trees. I hate the number of acorns that have fallen, however, as I've seen a total of two squirrels of late and there must be a gazillion acorns. And the acorns are beginning to put out sprouts in an area newly seeded by the landscaping crew. There is a big hawk that frequents the woods, so maybe the squirrels went the way of the hawk, so to speak. :-). Enjoy the nice weather and don't work too hard.

JudyMac -- Now that you mention it I haven't seen one single squirrel this fall and my driveway is full of chestnuts that are going uneaten. I have plenty of hawks too but there must be something else happening with the squirrel population and I'm going to try and find out what's going on. I visited a friend several days ago and his giant ancient oak tree has a bumper crop of acorns that are not being claimed by the wildlife. They are just collecting on the ground. The wild turkeys love them but maybe there are just too many acorns this year without help from the squirrels gathering them for the winter. This has been the most spectacular fall I can remember in a long time. The trees are putting on a grand show and yours is just beginning. Enjoy!!!
