DIY Weed Spray

I got this in my email this morning from a friend who lives nearby. I think she's trying to tell me something in a nice way. I have seen all sorts of recipes for homemade weed spray but never this one. I sprayed RoundUp on my driveway twice last year and worried about what I might be doing to my health the whole time. I was covered head to toe and had a bandana over my nose and mouth. I honestly don't think it's worthwhile because the weeds came back. This recipe has nothing harmful in it so I shall make it and let you know if it works. I have all of the ingredients on hand too, though I might have to buy more vinegar. I am so excited!

Weed-Be-Gone
1 Gallon Vinegar
2 Cups Epson Salts
1/4 Cut Dawn Dish Soap (the Blue Original)

It will kill anything you spray it on. Just mix and spray in the morning after the dew has evaporated. Walk away. Go back after dinner and the weeds are all gone!

This sounds too good to be true but it's worth a try. Have a great weekend everybody. xo

Most chemicals for the garden turn in to fumes above 80f. At that point they enter thru your skin.

Roundup works on what is green. Will not harm seeds.

Of course the weeds came back. Ugh!

Your friend sent a fab gift !

Tara....I try to embrace the weeds and I have Rosemary Turf in my lawn just as you have Tara Turf in yours. However, try as I may and try as I might, I simply cannot love the crabgrass in my wood chips. I am going to dig it out this weekend and spray anything that comes up later with this recipe. Are you going to make some too?

Until last year, I had never used RoundUp--read too much bad about it. But, I had a trumpet vine I was trying to get rid of--we tried digging it out and yet it still came back. I finally broke down and used Roundup. It still came back.
My next trick---boiling water. And yep--that worked. I hate using chemicals. I always wonder what that's doing to the worms, etc.
Keep up posted on how this works for you.

We used this recipe and our sprayer would not work again afterward, so for us it was a costly test. This same recipe or something similar was supposed to clean shower tile and it ruined my spray bottle too. Maybe others have had good results from this but unfortunately not us. Good luck!

Roundup is poison to the environment
and dogs. When one in Eight boys have Autism in this world of ours you start to wonder why.Your recipe will work. I have been gardening for many years and will never use chemicals!
Love your blog!

You should know that regular household vinegar will kill sproutlets but not weekds. Use the "industrial strength" vinegar you can buy at big box stores.
Roundup and other chemical cocktails for the garden are killing our honey bees, birds, & butterflies. It is a known cause of terrible birth defects in all animals. Monsanto knows this, yet is pushing for the FDA to allow even more and stronger incursions into our food growing fields.
I vote for vinegar or Sue's boiling water remedy! A similar safe vinegar formula that is known to kill stubborn blackberry brambles is commercially available if you don't want to mix your own.
