Asleep on The Sofa

This little one is allowed on her human's sofa. So far, Webster is completely satisfied with his two dog beds in the living room. Sometimes I sneak into the room in the middle of the night and he is always on one of them. He seems to start out on his old one which is big and round and much thinner than his new one. But at some point, he wanders over to the new much thicker one and probably more comfortable. This is usually where he is in the morning. It is actually chilly this morning and I have on long sleeves. It feels sooooo good. Have a great Sunday. xo via

Aside from the hair, oils and---ahem, other odors----maybe jumping up on the sofa has become a strenuous movement not worth Mr. Webster's trouble. Your timing for training him for this new routine was impeccable....just let him go on thinking it's his idea. ;-)

Gail...I think you might be right. In the weeks before getting new sofas, I heard him yelp from time to time when trying to get on the old sofas. As long as I can keep him comfortable on the floor, he will be fine. I had to put a long wool oriental runner I had downstairs in my kitchen because his feet were slipping on the wood floor. It looks nice and helps the old guy from hurting himself again. Have a great Sunday.

I'm so jealous of your long leave weather ... OMG I can't wait for Fall, and we've got a lot of summer left.

I find that when you purchase new sofas or chairs, since they smell differently, the dogs hesitate to go on them. I could not keep my two dogs off my old sofa, but when I bought a new one, it was easy. I just never let them on it from the get-go, and that seemed to solve the problem. As long as they have an alternative cushy spot, they behave.

Your system is working here too. I should never have relaxed my guard and let Webster take over my other two loveseats. It makes for much more housework if you have to continually vacuum the dog hair off the furniture. There's nothing you can do about the body oils though. It's easy to get off the wall in my hallway. I've watched the wonder dog settle down in his favorite spot there. He leans against the wall and slides.
You are right. If he never gets on my new ones even once, he won't know what he's missing. He has plenty of comfy spots all over the house. Right now he is on the third floor on a dog bed in front of one of my eyebrow windows. Three dog beds is plenty. Plus there is a red "pleather" sofa downstairs he is allowed on but he is only interested in my finest furnishings :-)
