Old Photos: My Brother and Me

Did this roving pony and photographer visit your neighborhood when you were a kid?

My brother Tim. He didn't need any props from the photographer. He came fully dressed in his Hopalong Cassidy outfit he got for Christmas. He wore it until it was either worn out or outgrown, I can't remember which.

Tim's inner and outer cowboy, back in the saddle again.

I wore my own clothes but the hat was probably a prop. I don't remember ever wanting to be a cowgirl. My brother always got up a little bit earlier than I did on Saturday mornings and I was forced to watch Cowboys and Indians because he beat me to the TV.

My inner cowgirl. I've never been at home in the saddle.

You and I could have been twins at that age, same hair, face, etc. I have no pony pictures, but I did have a little cowgirl outfit, hat and holster included. I'll have to post that picture on my blog one of these days. We had great childhoods, didn't we?

I didn't realize you had a brother. I never heard mention of any family except your mother. Those are great pictures...thanks for sharing.

Super photos. Takes me back. Thanks so much for sharing yours! In addition to a pony, I also have a photo of me sitting astride a bull with huge horns. I wanted to be Dale Evans, but I wanted the adventures of Roy Rogers. Our house had a large screened back porch upstairs. I could not understand why keeping a horse there was not a perfectly splendid idea.

and i do adore horses.

Now why did I think you were an only child? I'm assuming your brother is no longer living?

I was never comfortable in the saddle either. And at one time hubby and I even had horses which we rode!

Mama Pea and Everyone:
My brother Timothy died in 1978 at the age of 33 after complications from Open Heart Surgery.
I've been an only child since then.
He and my mother still live in my heart.

I have one of these pictures of myself on a pony; I think I was 3 or 4 yrs. old. If I remember correctly, it was the days of door-to-door salespeople and they showed up on our street. I must have begged mercilessly to be allowed to get on that horse!

Sandy Lawrence...
You sound exactly like that little girl in the comic strip "Priscilla's Pop"
She was obsessed with getting a horse too.
I think the screened porch would have been a perfect place to keep one.

Rosemary,
I remember in one of your posts you said how close your Mother and brother were and how sad it was, of course, when he died.
It's nice to see a picture of him.
Thank you,
Betty

Your pictures are just too cute. My grandfather used to put me up on his mule when he took it to water down behind his corn mill. I never took a liking to riding anything that walked on four feet.

I don't think I have ever seen a photo of your brother. Very nice. :)

JudyMac....I took riding lessons with a girlfriend when I first moved to New Jersey. Shortly after I mastered posting, my horse decided to gallop really fast around the riding ring and I somehow managed to stay in the saddle -- for the last time! I'm just glad we weren't on a trail.
I like the clothes though.
