Book Borrower Warning

Black is the Raven, Black is the rook, But Blacker is the rougue who returns not this book.
A wonderful warning written around 1839 in the front of an 1810 copy of Robinson Crusoe.
Have you ever loaned a book that was never returned? via

No, but you just reminded me that I need to return a book!

Thank you!

Yes I did and they had a bookplates in the front too. Maybe I should use this verse instead if I decide to loan a book again.

I'm a bit compulsive about returning things, so no. But I've loaned books that we're never returned. Oh well.
Maybe I should have that quote in my books. :-)

Yes!
I've loaned books and they've not been returned.
I like this inscription a sign of the poetic times of days gone by...
It reminds me of the late 1980's and 1990's and the not so poetic phrase pasted to every VHS ever rented...
"BE KIND AND REWIND."

:)
Thanks for sharing your old old book and inscription. Pat

I need to swipe that charming reminder and put it in my books. Both the hubby and I have loaned several books that have never come home to us again. For a while I was writing down who to and what we loaned but that didn't last very long.

I don't buy as many books as I use to so don't loan out as many as I use to. My book loaning now is from the local library and they are very good at reminding me of when their loans to me need to be returned.

I had that happen a few times, so that is why I don't loan books that I care about. If I know I don't care if it comes back or not, then I just "gift" it.
