Forest Green Door Rocks This Entrance

I wouldn't have the gathered sheer curtains on the side lights, but I like everything else. Maybe a larger lantern hanging from the overhead cornice too. via

I have to agree with you, Rosemary....the lantern is too small and I would keep the side lights clear.

What is the reasoning for gathered sheer curtains? Was that a common practice?

Gail...

I think the curtains were for privacy. Now we all know how much dogs enjoy looking out so we don't put up those dreadful gathered sheers. Thank goodness.

Ha-ha-ha! I forgot about Mr. Webster. He would think you were off your rocker if you blocked his view with something like curtains!

What a lovely, caring friend you are to him. Most people wouldn't even consider their dog's "view".

When I had my beautiful black lab, I always felt terrible that I couldn't explain the difference between rides in the car in the cool winter months and them being forbidden in the hot summer months. She never understood.

Love the door, but those curtains do look strange. Should be same fabric from top to bottom. And you're right .... a larger light is a must!

What about the little mailbox with the carriage?

I thought about mentioning that mailbox too. But then I would have had to complain about the almost dead greenery in the two planters. And the doormat. :)

An additional comment .... yes, the windows might look best uncovered, but I don't like the idea of people being able to stand by the door and look in. Who knows, someone might go streaking by in their undies, making a beeline to get dressed before answering the door; it does happen! How about glass that Webster can see out, but no one can see in? :-)

Webster would find a way to pull back the curtains with his nose so he could see out, no matter what! I wonder if they make one-way glass for residential applications, Like they use in interrogation rooms?

Rosemary,
I'm with you, skip the curtains and add a larger lantern and it's beautiful, or more so.

I'm laughing at the comment stream and grateful this isn't my front door although the door and color are very pretty. There is a house in my neighborhood that has white siding, black shutters and a granny apple green front door. It always makes me happy to see that door when I drive past it.

Are door mats a faux pas? I have a natural jute one at my front door.

I've always had a thing for dark green woodwork, inside or out, so this door really appeals to me. A few years ago I finally satisfied my longing for green woodwork and did up my dining room with it. I love it, and it makes me happy to see it each day. Helps me ignore the clutter I always fail to clean up. I'm not quite following the curtain issue. I'm too captivated by the green door.
