Maybe we’re finally realizing the advantages of a separate garage. The extra space, lower homeowner’s insurance, and a more attractive façade are worth a few extra steps to the car or from the car to the house. image found here
On a local level, here is the best reason for a detached garage.
I took this iPhone yesterday from my car. I have no idea what caused this old post and beam barn garage fire but I'm so glad it wasn't attached to the house. my iPhone photos
Thankfully this delightful old house was spared. Where is your garage?

Um . . . attached to the house. (Ooops.)
Oh, my! That certainly was a close call for that old house. We have two garages ... a two-car drive-under variety on the side of the house, and a 4-car detached garage that we built ourselves for equipment, storage, and to keep my Mustang. Unfortunately, it's mostly storage and junk now ... with just enough free space for the tractor, golf cart, and the Mustang. (People who are unfamiliar with our place think that the detached garage is another house. I don't get it.)
Ha! I wish I had one!
.. Audrey Hepburn and her father lived in a detached garage ... Sabrina is one of my favorite movies.

I didn't know that about Audrey and her father. I loved Sabrina too.

I had no idea a garage lowers the homeowners insurance. Our garage and most of the garages in our neighborhood are attached to our houses. I'm happy the pretty country house is safe.

I may have been misleading. It was Audrey's character Sabrina and her father who lived above the garage in the movie. It always seemed so enchanting to me.

Thanks. I knew that about the movie but thought you were talking about her real life. I don't know anything about Audrey Hepburn's childhood.
