Lilies of the Valley at My Cottage

They are finally starting to spread. I brought three pips from my old house and stuck them in the ground. Why didn't I dig up more you ask? Don't ask me but I wish I had. They seem very happy now that they have some breathing room and I think they will love the wood chips. I finished pulling up all the thistles in a back flower(less) bed and did some serious weeding. I'm going to put a very thick layer of wood chips there too. I felt a few raindrops and came in for a tomato sandwich. It's raining softly now. I just looked at my thermometer and it's 66° which is perfect for working outside. I'll go out again after the shower. Enjoy your weekend.

I miss these and their lovely fragrance...they don't grow here, it's too hot. These and lilacs.

Another "I miss NJ" moment. These grew abundantly in my garden. On my wedding day, I picked a bunch of them and put them in my bouquet. Thanks for the sweet memory!

Rosemary dear,

I just returned from a two week painting/decor marathon trip for my kids out in UT. I'm exhausted with much to do and catch up on here in VA. I will be spending some time tomorrow catching up with you also via two weeks worth of posts from your contented cottage.

I adore Lily of the Valley, can't grow it worth a lick here in Virginia although maybe others can.

I'm hope yours will starting multiplying, it looks like you've done all that you can to make that possible.

I actually broke down and turned on the heat this afternoon because it was so cold in the house. I feel your pain....I don't deal well with hot weather.

In the Chicago suburb where I grew up, my dad's crop of lily of the valley grew wildly. They even pushed up through the edges of the asphalt driveway! Early on the mornings of my May birthdays, Dad would gather a tight bouquet of these lovely fragrant flowers and place them on the table beside my bed to greet me when I woke up.
Here in Virginia, my few pips have increased only slightly over time and bloom in late April.
Do take more photos to share of your gardening triumphs to inspire all of us.
