I've always wondered why ants like peonies but I don't know the answer. They just do. I took this photo just a few minutes ago on this cool Tuesday morning that feels like a Monday. Ants are attracted to the sweet sap the peonies exude. They do no harm to the plant.

I've been told the ants removing the sweet stuff on the peonies is what opens the flowers

That would make sense. Maybe the nectar is like glue and the ants have to remove it before the buds can open.
