Antique Acquisition

I attended the last day of a house contents sale recently when the pickings were slim. I walked around several times and found a few treasures and then I spotted this shelf. It was filled with junk for sale and when I asked the price, nobody knew. The boss lady conducting the sale said it was a 'prop' but if I wanted it she would sell it for $8.00. Needless to say, I was thrilled. Just remember, it always pays to ask!

Nice work, Rosemary.
I'll never forget the day I sprang from my car at the sight of a makeshift curb-side sale where I spotted a child's easel with a blackboard on one side and a painting surface to hold pots of tempera on the other. When I asked the price, the lady put me on the spot by saying, "You tell me what it's worth to you." Now, it gets more interesting. When I apologetically replied with "Oh, I don't know. Would you take $10," she answered with "Oh, I was thinking only $2!" to which I said, "What will it be, then, $10 or $2?" Her answer was, "$2." You just never know.

... good for you, charming ... I would have gone for the top trophy but it likely would have been out of reach.

I love the shelf and what a bargain. I also love your trophies.

Always remember .... one man's junk is another man's treasure. As you said, all you have to do is ask, and sometimes these treasures can be had for mere pennies. Great find!
