Shelf or Bracket Fungi Growing on Tree

I photographed this beautiful large fungi on the base of a tree yesterday. I don't know if all the rain we have had lately is responsible or not but I am always glad when I run across a giant grouping.

The fairies will have fun on their multi level dance floors.

Angela...

I'm glad they are tiered so they can start at the top and jump down.

Fabulous, fascinating fungi. One of nature's heralds that says Autumn is on the way.

I love, love, love fungi of all kinds. From the bizarre and weird to the delicate and beautifully coloured.

The kingdom of fungi is a large one indeed. There are so many beautiful families found throughout the world.

The bracket/shelf fungus in your photo is a lovely example :)

Vicki...

They are storybook material too as Ladyhawthorne pointed out.

Wow, nature in all it's glory and creativity, Fungi are fun and fascinating...and some of them are very bad to eat.

I don't walk in the woods or fields where I live because my county is now the capital of Lyme disease. It's an awful illness and I know so many who have it. I do everything I can to avoid being where the ticks live. Why am I telling you all this you may wonder, because it means I don't get to see things like the fungi on your tree.

I love these fungi - which we called Bear Bread when growing up in S.E. Alaska - I like the idea of fairy dance floors.

I have a friend that would take the fungus and paint Alaskan scenes on it, she painted a fishing boat scene for me years ago, but alas, the fungus finally started to decompose and all I have are the memories of it.
