Broadway Tower Worcestershire UK

If you've never been to Broadway in the Cotswolds, you should definitely go. That's an order if you are going to be in England. I climbed to the top of this tower in the 1970s. I stayed at the Lygon Arms Hotel in a room with a Tudor decor. Photo source unknown.

oh be still my anglophile heart!
i clicked on the link.
i wonder if they realize what a treasure living in that village is?
surely they do.
if you like cozy english mysteries, my favorite is the agatha raisin series by m c beaton.
agatha is described as "a blend of miss marple and lucille ball with a touch of pitt bull thrown in."
they are set in the cotswolds.
beaton also does the hamish macbeth mysteries set in scotland.
equally wonderful. maybe you've read them.
wonderful post!
cheers,

I have had trouble posting in the past so hope it goes through! Broadway is one of my and my husbands all time favorite stop. We always stayed in the Tudor Rose B&B. We were living in Maynooth Ireland at the time and would catch the 39 pound return flights out of Dublin. Been too long since 97 and would love to return. We lived in Northamptonshire for 3 years and Dublin for 2, miss them both so much. Thanks for all your posting, read them everyday.

In 1996 I visited England with my two teenagers and a ten-year-old. We went during their school Easter break (freezing in England!). I had researched everything and everything went off without a hitch. After a few days in London I ventured into the Cotswolds. By myself with the three kids, driving on the wrong side of the road, in a stick shift car, with the wheel on the wrong side!
When we got to the Broadway Tower - the gates were closed! (I guessed the locals were more afraid of the cold than we were). I wasn't going to let a simple padlock and chain stop me, so I told the kids to climb over the fence. And then, I proceeded to do the same. I was dressed to the nines: black leather skirt, lovely blazer, silk scarf, black leather gloves and pearls. Which was probably a good thing, since when I was right in the middle of my acrobatic act, the warden rode by! He was very kind and let us go up to the tower and told us all sorts of stories about it. He said when he sees people doing what he saw us doing, he calls the police right away, but we were dressed "so properly" that he decided to come over and investigate.
... And we stayed in Chipping Camden, which I highly recommend too.

Patricia...

That is a wonderful story. I'm glad it wasn't locked when I was there. I never got comfortable driving there because of those roundabouts.

I love Chipping Camden too!

Tammy....

I'm sure the residents of Broadway know what a treasure it is to live in that village. I think it's the perfect place to start a Cotswolds tour!

Mary Anne....

If I ever get there again I shall stay at the Tudor Rose. Thanks for the recommendation.

You are so fortunate to have lived so close.

My husband and I were there in 1969 and bought a kitten from the couple who lived in the tower. They lived there, had kittens and took entrance fee money from people who came to see the tower. I think you could see 4 counties on a clear day from the top of the tower. It is a very neat place to visit! By JuneDawn
