How to feed a giraffe.

Have a fun weekend. I love this vintage photograph. This was certainly a memorable trip to the zoo for these little boys and their super dad. via

The summer of '87 was a year of "The 17 Year Locusts." That summer, my hubby & another couple went to the Cincinnati Zoo; so that they wouldn't be "bugged" by the all the locusts, they had all the big animals in the elephant building during the day. We saw some of the giraffes walking over to the fence, so my friend & I went over to to pet them. They were SO big! We had to reach up a little just to pet their chests ~ & while we were petting them, unbeknownst to us, 1 was bending it's long neck over the top of the fence, where it reached down & slowly & firmly yet gently LICKED the entire top of my head!!!!! Fortunately for me, it had a very dry tongue & there was nothing ickie left behind! Ha!

Lucky you! Giraffe only lick people and animals they love!

they have enormous black tongues!

I am sending Rosemary some pics taken when I took my 16 year old daughter to Kenya in 1986; to the "Giraffe Manor" (those people singularly rescued the species "Rothschild giraffe"! (they have a distinctive marking)

I fed them from my teeth! (from a raised platform at their sanctuary!)

] (not nearly as dramatic as that father! Yikes!

If I could have done that ,; I would have!!

I forgot......to say.....my comment was to you, or course, but also to Mamee's Pantry; who had the giraffe lick her head! Wait till you see these pics!

I think you will love them! I swore I would never wash my face again!
