Hmmm...been wishing my vines recently planted by my cottage would grow a little faster. But, not that fast! Good reminder to keep those trimmers handy. Love the posts!
I love an ivy covered cottage, and lots of vines on a house! However... I lived in a brownstone covered with ivy in my 20's and the vines were infected with brown recluse spiders! I found this out when I got a giant bite.... kind of took the fun out of ivy covered buildings for me!!! :)
I grew up in a modest red brick home my parents had built. A passionate gardener, my father soon had ivy creeping up the walls and covering a good bit of the brick not unlike many of the homes in our neighborhood. We all thought it charming until . . . word went out that ivy could undermine bricks and mortar. One day while my mother, brother, and I were out, Dad tore down his precious ivy. All of it. So shocked and upset with him, we at first couldn't see how sad he was, too. He allowed a little bit to grow back under his careful watch. Linda

that takes the "green roof" concept over the edge

Looking at the color on the roof it almost looks like virginia creeper. I have it growing all over the place. I think it is as aggressive as kudzu.
