Mattie Lou O'Kelley didn't start painting until she was 60. This self-taught Georgia artist was quite prolific until her passing at age 89 in 1997. Read her obituary in The New York Times.She also wrote poetry, which was as homely as her canvases:
"Now my one room house has only me,
I never roam,
No lessons have I. But I paint
And paint
And stay at home."

The Mattie Lou O'Kelley print "When the dogwoods bloom" remind me of a quilt. It is beautiful and fits perfectly with your blog.
If you have any idea where I can find Mattie Lou O'kelley prints/posters for sale, I'd appreciate any ideas you might have. I went to the High Museum of Art today (Atlanta) and feel in love with her art but even they don't have prints! Will check back to this site.....
