Susan Sarandon Video Encourages Civil Disobedience For Capitol Climate Action in Washington, DC on March 2nd

In a new video, actress/activist Susan Sarandon is asking the American public to help stop global warming by participating in Capitol Climate Action — the country’s largest show of civil disobedience about global warming in history.

In the video, Sarandon says: “Civil disobedience can overcome great challenges and global warming is the greatest challenge of our time. On March 2nd, thousands will come together in Washington D.C for a historic protest on the climate crisis. Many will continue our tradition of peaceful, civil disobedience.”

Background: The Capitol Power Plant, which is owned by Congress and sits just blocks from the American seat of power, burns coal to heat and cool numerous buildings on Capitol Hill. The facility no longer generates electricity but its reliance on coal has made it the focus of political controversy and a powerful symbol of coal's impact on the environment and public health.

Webster knows best. Spring was very short lived; it's very cold and windy today. Webster had to walk himself because I am still in my pajamas and he's all tuckered out. He loves the silly pillow I bought for him yesterday at the church rummage sale around the corner.

I have always loved this illustration. I've been saving this card since it was first published and it pretty much sums up my feeling for all books. A book is just about the best present you can give or buy for yourself, isn't it?

Sewing Machine Cover made from a tea towel . . .

I've been saving this idea from a very old Martha Stewart Living Magazine for quite some time. I keep my sewing maching out at all times so I can mend or sew a seam at the drop of a hat. I always have to dust it off too. I think I am going to make one of these covers. I have all the necessary supplies including a roll of white cotton twill tape. I will post a photo when mine is finished. This looks like a fun and easy project!

Wonderful illustrations from an antique story book . . .

The King was in his Counting-house,
Counting out his Money.


The Queen was in the Parlour,
Eating Bread and Honey.

The Maid was in the Garden,
Hanging out the Clothes;
There came a little Blackbird,
And snapped off her Nose.

But there came a Jenny Wren
And popped it on again.

I scanned these images from one of my antiquarian children's books: R. Caldecott's Picture Book No. 2 published in London by Frederick Warne and Co., Ltd. (the same company that published all of the Beatrix Potter books).

I absolutely love the 19th century illustrations by Randolph Caldecott. The rooms of the little king and queen are so nicely decorated down to the last detail. The fairy tale pictures on their walls are just wonderful. The architectural design of the house and walled gardens delight me too. Click to enlarge.

These stories are a pleasure to read because they set your mind spinning trying to imagine living in such a special place. Enjoy.

Supercar sells for €3,480,000 in Paris | Rare 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Atalante

The Bonhams Retromobile sale witnessed some extraordinary results including €3,480,000 for the Ex-Earl Howe 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Atalante called "Black Bess" which will remain in Europe. Read more about the history of this fabulous car with a slide show showing how nicely it cleaned up!
