Neoclassical Bathroom

The bathroom fixtures with swan's-head faucet and handles were custom-made.They match the other hardware throughout the apartment (door levers, window levers, and so forth).

On the terrace, the swans' heads that are visible are the backs of 19th century Italian folding garden furniture. The teacup is from a 1950s Tiffany design called "Black Victoria." The towels are French.

Photos scanned from a volume in my personal library "In The Neoclassic Style"

Have a great weekend.

Owl with Spanish Moss

Another owl to delight you. This one is sitting on a tree limb draped with Spanish moss. I think I've mentioned before that the parkland adjacent to my cottage is the habitat for screech owls. I hear them at night in the summer when the windows are open but never see them.

The Owl and The Pussycat in Real Life

A real-life owl and pussycat. A kitten and owl have become inseparable since their unlikely friendship began. A litter of stray kittens was turned in to The Hawk Conservancy Trust in Hampshire UK after they were found abandoned on a nearby road. One pussycat has become firm friends with Nigel, a white-faced scops owl. Heartwarming Photo by Mathew Grocoot - Caters News

Antiques Galore

This photo absolutely stopped me in my tracks and I couldn't wait to share it with you. I wish I could jump inside and spend some time with all of those beautiful things.

Classic Cotswolds

Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, England. I absolutely love this section of the Cotswolds and I'm quite sure I have pictures of this house packed away taken in the 1970s long before digital. Please click to enlarge this beautiful photo ©Robert Silverwood via Flickr.

Time For A Nap

This sleeping puppy is so funny. He looks las if he's out cold. I couldn't resist stealing it from The Animal Blog.

Believe me, I know how he feels. I worked with the gutter cleaning guys earlier and have been raking leaves ever since. Unfortunately, a nap is not in my future.

Charming Low Maintenance Home

What could be better than a brick house with a slate roof? I'm always drawn to homes that look to be low maintenance as I face painting my cottage next spring. This one was built in 1938 and I'm sure it has been updated inside and out. The gardens are beautiful too, aren't they?

Most of the advice in this book is timeless even though it was published 17 years ago.

Baby Hedgehog

Is there anything cuter than a baby hedgehog? I think not. This one seems to be posing for his black and white portrait. No gel was needed for the adorable spiked hairdo. I would imagine the quills on a baby would be on the soft side.

Have a great day. My weekly office meeting is this morning. See you later.

My Bedroom for Tonight

This is the bedroom I've chosen to sleep in tonight. Isn't it lovely? I love the bed hangings and the beautiful groupings of framed antique prints on either side of the bed. I collect miniature antique chests and I like the one on the table in the first photo.

Have a great evening. See you in the morning.

Antique Owl Andirons

I've always liked figural cast iron andirons -- especially the owls. My friend Jill has a pair with eyes made from antique marbles. These are nice too. Another friend has a pair of Hessian Soldiers. It's a good time to fire them up now that it's getting colder.

We are having a miserable cold rain today but at least it's not snow which must hold off until after Friday. I'm getting my gutters cleaned one day this week. After that I won't give a hoot.

Sliding Barn Door To Cover TV

I just can't get enough of these interior sliding doors mounted on hardware originally designed for barns. I especially like the idea of hiding the television set and other electronics behind a small one. Found here. Now someone will have to design a garage-door-opener remote for the lazy viewer.

My other posts about interior sliding doors are here.
