I'm Loving Tartan Plaids for Some Reason

For some reason I am drawn to red plaid in all forms lately. It just seems to be so perfect for the upcoming holiday season. Agreed? Which one is your favorite? I honestly want them all. via The link sends you to my boards on Pinterest. I've pinned each of these recently. My lights keep flickering with this blizzard....yes I said blizzard because that is what it has become. I'm nervously charging up my iPhone just in case the power goes out with fingers crossed that it doesn't. Webster went back to bed like a smart dog.

Sewed All Day

I've been sewing off and on for the past two days and have used almost every sewing notion I own. Can you even remember the last time you used a sleeve board? I just finished altering some things to wear to an upcoming special event. Is there anything harder or more frustrating? I think not. It's so much easier to sew something from scratch than to take a finished garment apart and make it fit properly. I know, I know -- I could have taken the items to a tailor or dressmaker or even the cleaners and they would have done it for me. But I wanted to do it myself and I did. So happy.

Must Change Attitude

©Mary Engelbreit
I sent this darling image to a friend with a young daughter who cut her own hair. The beauty parlor "fixed" it into an Audrey Hepburn short cut and now she's growing it out. I love this style, don't you? The pouty face is perfect for this particular little girl as well. I'm off to an office meeting this morning. See you later.

Hermès | The Story of the Kelly Bag | Download

Designed by Robert Dumas in the 1930s, the Kelly was simply unlike any other bag around. It was first called sac à courroie pour dames, meaning bag with straps for ladies.
How interesting. I learned lots of new things about the original Hermès Kelly Bag. Read more . . .

The bag became an overnight sensation after this photo appeared in Life Magazine in 1956. It wasn't officially renamed Kelly until 21 years later. Grace Kelly loved this bag and used the half-dozen in her collection to hide her pregnancy from the paparazzi.

As you can see from this photo the bag did an excellent job for Princess Grace of Monaco, our American princess.

Download your Kelly and make an origami paper version.

Plaid Infinity Scarf | Tutorial | DIY | Handmade

I love this beautiful wool infinity scarf or cowl. It's very easy to make too; I've already made one this morning (in my mind).  I have some red silk and might make one to wear with my black velvet blazer for an upcoming affair. These would be great made from a light flowery fabric for dressing up spring outfits, especially on a chilly morning. One in a madras plaid would be fabulous too. I like the way this one looks on the headless mannequin. Happy sewing!

Can You Guess Who This Is?

Always the multi-tasker, it's Martha Stewart back in the 1960s when she was a new mother, working on Wall Street and modeling as well. Click here for a description of all the outfits and more. I think she still has some of those clothes. She never has to get rid of anything thanks to all the storage capabilities in her numerous homes.

Martha, what big hair you have in photo #2.

Diane Keaton Likes To Hide in Plain Sight

Diane Keaton’s Disappearing Acts: The actress has spent the better part of a near 40-year film career playing an assortment of tentative, endearingly flighty characters, masking her allure beneath layers of cloth. Jack Skellington Halloween Hat + Mask To Knit | Free Pattern

Get out your knitting needles -- you still have time to make this wonderful hat/mask for Halloween. It's great for skiers and snowboarders as well as Trick or Treaters since it adjusts to all kinds of winter weather. It makes for a very original, warm and practical Halloween accessory too.

The design is mostly inspired by the character Jack Skellington from the animated movie 'The Nightmare before Christmas’ by director Tim Burton.
