Weekend Reading

This wonderfully creative ad from Neilson Dairy promotes reading, going to the library, and drinking milk for a strong body and mind. I like it. It reminds me of my childhood. This young girl in in for some great reading. Luckily it appears to be summer and hopefully school is out.

Have a great weekend. Try to find a good book and escape. xo, Rosemary

AGA Rangemaster Cookers Go Dotty After 300 Years.

AGA goes dotty over new (limited edition) Emma Bridgewater model covered in brightly colored polka dots. It's a little too daring for my taste. I prefer neutral everything with my antiques providing color and contrast. What do you think of these wildly emblished stoves? I think this one costs around $10,000 in case you were thinking of placing an order.

Four leading personalities in the British Isles have given their take in a series of decorated cookers to celebrate AGA Rangemaster’s 300-year heritage.

Renowed pottery designer, Emma Bridgewater, has designed an iconic polka-dot AGA. Atomic Kitten singer, Natasha Hamilton, has embellished a Rangemaster cooker with cupcakes. Eco designer and TV presenter, Oliver Heath, has created a patchwork wood-burning Rayburn and Michelin-star winning chef, Nick Nairn, has designed a fabulous tartan Falcon cooker that signifies his Scottish roots.

I don't often do two posts in one day but I found these stoves so interesting, I just couldn't wait another day. Thanks for stopping by the cottage again. ♥Rosemary

Piano Stairs in Stockholm, Sweden . . .

The experiment worked. Make it fun and more people will choose to get their exercise by walking up the stairs instead of using the escalator. Reminded me of Tom Hanks in the movie BIG playing that foot-operated piano keyboard.

Thanks for stopping by the cottage for a little fun today. ♥Rosemary

The Story of Stuff [Video] . . .

I hope you will find the time to watch this fascinating 20-minute animated film by Annie Leonard. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever. You can also download the PDF version of The Story of Stuff with footnotes.

The New York Times had a feature article about the film and its creator recently that you will also find interesting.

I've had a link on my blog for The Story of Stuff for quite a long time and it makes me happy whenever someone clicks on it. I was especially distressed to learn how much stuff ends up in the land fills due to planned obsolescence. The kitchen industry is now trying to make us all dislike our stainless appliances in favor of colored ones. I will not fall for this. Mine are only 7 years old and they are just fine, thank you very much!

Thanks for stopping by the cottage today for an eye-opening film. I hope you will share it with your friends. ♥Rosemary

Recipe for toast . . .

I am eating toast but mine wasn't this much fun to make! I can understand this clever ad completely since my toaster seems to take forever to pop up. You can enlarge the photo.

My wooden toast tongs keep me from burning my fingers or getting electrocuted. Love them!

Tina Fey is the realest woman on the planet . . .

I have always loved the way Tina Fey chose to depict herself in this ad for American Express. What a mess! Somehow I don't think this was staged at all, do you? It is so real and so refreshing. Who says you have to be compulsively neat to be successful?

Be on the lookout for her at Costco.

M is for Manicure | Great Logo . . .

I think this letter M is such a clever design for a manicure cutlery company.

I got a vintage pair of pet nail clippers for Webster at at estate sale last week. The company is still in business using this logo. I wonder if MILLERS FORGE products are guaranteed perfect today?
