The Fourth of July, 1916. The Greatest Display of the American Flag Ever Seen in New York. This painting was inspired by the climax of the Preparedness Parade in May of that year. It must have been a wonderful sight to behold. Thankfully, we have this world-famous painting to document the historic World War I parade down Fifth Avenue. It's the 100-year anniversary of this great painting.
Enjoy your fireworks tonight!

How cool to see this image of such a classic painting of the scene in New York City from exactly 100 years ago! Thanks for sharing that on this most American of holidays - perfect choice!
That is fabulous and so good to see during our troubled times. Thank you!
Leslie -- Thank you. I am glad I noticed the date and my brain registered the 100 year mark. That was quite accidental. I'm glad you liked it as much as I did.

Lisa -- Agreed! It feels good to be patriotic and look at works of art from long ago honoring our flag and love of country.

The firework GIF is wonderful and mesmerizing to view. I feel a bit hypnotized.
I love our flag, I love to see it flying, I'm a died hard patriot. The painting of the 2016 flag display is wonderful, it really makes one wish it could have been viewed in person as I can't imagine NYC putting on such a display now. Really lovely that the artist immortalized the event in a painting.
Lisa is right, the times are very troubled and our choices for a future leader so dismal...we really can do better.
