The American tall case clock outside my kitchen pantry says it's TIME for the weekend. It has been raining most of the day and the evening fog is rolling in about now.
I slept in my car back in my younger days in order to be one of the first people in line at a house contents sale. I peeked in the window earlier in the day and saw this clock. Even though I arrived at 11pm the night before, I was #11.
Luckily I was the only one after a New Jersey clock so it all worked out fine. This is the one and only time I tried that tactic; I think it was over 25 years ago. Thanks to the Antiques Road Show you could never find anything this nice at a reasonable price today.
I am so excited that my blog won its first award for Best Blog of the Day on September 10th. My thanks to the judges!
Have a great weekend.

Congrats to you for your award!!
I love coming over here --always a bit of beauty or whimsy to lift my mood.
The clock is gorgeous. I remember growing up and being fascinated with "grandfather clocks", because of one on the television show "Captain Kangaroo" and our elderly neighbors across the street who had one in their hallway, much like your own treasure
I love winding my clock once a week. I almost don't hear it when it strikes every hour. If I wake up in the night it is a comfort to know that the clock will tell me the time sooner or later so I don't have to open my eyes to check the digital readout on my dvr.
Thanks for the contratulations.
That clock is wonderful! Well done! I do enjoy your blog very much and I am not surprised to see it win an award. Congratulations!
Thank you very much for your kind words of praise.
Do you think the economic downturn may reverse the Antique road show effect and create opportunities for tall case clock bargains who wants a big old fussy clock anyway oaky i do!!
Hi Rosemary, stopping by from our friend Tammy's blog to have a look around and say 'hello', so...
'Hello'! ;)
When I hear of stories like this, ones where an object was admired, sought after and subsequently acquired, it almost makes me jealous. I was reading about your interests and nearly everything you like I like, EXCEPT, I sadly never developed the skills to appreciate antiques the way they should be appreciated. Not that I don't love them. Quite the opposite. But I wouldn't know a true one from a reproduction if it fell out of a 50 story window and hit me in the head. Though I suppose if that happened it would be a moot point. :/
I see you are from Chatham New Jersey. Growing up just outside of Manhattan and living there for 60 years, I'm familiar with that lovely area. Last year we retired and moved to the Berkshire area, but I will always be a New Yawker at heart.
It's lovely to meet you Rosemary! I'll be back soon.
