Irish Wolfhound Doorstop

This wonderful doorstop is in my collection. Photographed on St. Patrick's Day on one of my antique chairs. Today is the day for all things Irish. My iPhone photo.

Green Tea Latte for St. Paddy's Day

Matcha green tea and milk, lightly sweetened, served over ice. A mint sprig is a nice touch to carry out the green theme. Doesn't this look refreshing? Matcha is a finely ground, powdered, high quality green tea. A little goes a long way too, since it's very concentrated. This would be good to serve today if you live in a hot place. It's hard for me to realize everyone isn't having cold weather. via

Today's the Day for a Shamrock Float

McDonald’s® Shamrock Shake Copycat Recipe
3 cups good quality vanilla ice cream
(I would use Breyers)
1-3/4 cups milk (or soy milk)
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
Green food coloring if desired
1. Blend all ingredients in a blender until completely thick and smooth.
2. Pour into tall glasses, top with whipped cream and green sprinkles.  I prefer iced tea spoons over straws with drinks like this or you could use both. Happy St. Paddy's Day! via

Dog on a Bed of Shamrocks

I scanned the dog from my antiquarian book on Royal Crests. After inserting the Irish proverb and putting it on a bed of shamrocks it became perfect for St. Patrick's Day. via

The Year of The Snake - 2013

Better late than never. Chinese New Year was February 10 so I'm almost a month late. This one-stroke watercolor brushwork is fascinating. Click here if you can't see my embedded video.

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!

These are some of my favorite posts from previous Day of Hearts. Don't eat too much candy today. xo

I woke up with this.

Dogs were barking and a cat was meowing but I really didn't want to leave my warm nest this morning. It was so cozy. I hope I'm not entering the New Year on the wrong foot. Everybody has been walked and fed and I have my coffee, so all's right with the world. Happy 2013! via

A Light in Every Window

I missed the town Christmas Tree lighting last night because I was with my mother. It was beautiful to see in the dark coming home along with many residents' outside decorations. The weather is still nice and not too cold to work outside. I usually wait until it's frigid and my fingers won't work. Early is better because Christmas will come whether I'm ready or not. via

Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving Day

This vintage Thanksgiving postcard was mailed in 1910 back in the day when all turkeys were free range. I hope all of your dishes come out of the oven and make it to the table and sideboard looking and tasting just the way you hoped they would. Enjoy this day of thanks with family and friends and eat all you want. Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday. Enjoy! via

The History of Labor Day

Young Mill Worker in Alabama

In 2008 I put together a great History of Labor Day and I still like reading it and watching the video with historic footage. In case you missed it or want to refresh your memory, click here
We have a gloomy rainy day at my cottage. I hope your weather is better if you are going to a parade or having a picnic.

I made an etching from a photo

I'm having fun playing with an app called ETCHINGS I bought this morning for 99¢. This is the July 4th photo I made in my kitchen transformed with the app. There are lots of other possibilities too. This is now used to celebrate the Labor Day holiday.

Early Morning Light on My Fireplace

Happy Friday everyone. Webster is still in bed and I'm having my morning quiet time with my first cup of coffee. It's cool and crisp with nice sunshine and the feeling of fall in the air. Enjoy the last day of August and, for some, the beginning of the long Labor Day weekend. I took this photo with my iPhone. The new model is coming out next month but I'm still thrilled with the one I have (the 4S) so I won't be rushing to get a replacement. It's time for my second cup of java now -- see you later.

Happy National Lighthouse Day

It was on this day in 1789, that Congress approved an Act for the establishment and support of lighthouse, beacons, buoys and public piers. In Celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the signing of the Act and the commissioning of the first Federal lighthouse, Congress passed a resolution which designated August 7, 1989 as National Lighthouse Day. Are you enjoying July 4th so far?

I'm sure I have already posted these images---maybe last year. I found them saved to my computer with no information on the original sources....sorry. Pretty soon it will be dark and the fireworks will begin. Enjoy the display in your town. I've had a great holiday so far and hope you have too.
