A Royal Family Picnic

"September 8, 1960 - Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK - Baby Prince Andrew perches on Prince Philip's lap during a picnic on the grounds of Balmoral Castle. Also pictured are Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and Princess Anne." Image by ©Bettmann/CORBIS
Where's the picnic basket? Why is there no mention of the dog? I can't believe this picture is over half a century old and it seems like yesterday, doesn't it?

Ever since seeing "Elizabeth," I think Prince Phillip is a real detriment to the royal family - cruel to the queen, distant from the children, a real stuffy "stiff" to his people. Elizabeth should just stick to her horses and corgis. Maybe she does.

hahaha. i like b's comment. but...
i think elizabeth fell head over heels with him when she was young. he was very handsome and probably more charming back then.
the one i love is prince charles. i have, all his life. even through the years when 'diana-mania' was taking place. he very quietly had been instilling and supporting charities way before diana. but the press said nothing and he didn't brag. and he's been green way before it was 'popular mainstream.
oh well.
i love them all! pure anglophile here!
thanks rosemary for all the little inner links too!

I'm a bit of an Anglophile myself. I don't agree with BIllie, I think Prince Phillip has been a huge asset to the Queen. No one can really know what goes on in a relationship and I won't even begin to judge their. It could not have been easy for either of them to step into the roles of Queen and Prince Consort at such young ages. I tend to think they love and respect each other and I congratulate them on 65 years of marriage (this year) which is an amazing achievement for any couple.
