Salman Khan has taken a simple idea, YouTube videos that explain math, and transformed it into the future of education. It all started out when he started tutoring his niece remotely to help her with math. He never intended for anyone else to notice the videos on YouTube or even care. Then he found out that Bill Gates was using the tutorials to help his own kids with math. The rest is history.

This is a must see, must read subject for all teachers, educators, parents, grandparents, homeschoolers, or just about anybody who wants to learn. The subjects covered are vast. It is said that if you watch just one video per day, it will take over 8 years to see them all. Read more here.

Wow, we love Khan. My 8th grader got himself through pre-algebra last year with a textbook and Khan Academy to explain what he couldn't figure out on his own. Now he's working his way through the biology lectures and eying the art-history ones as well. You can cover a lot of high-school bases this way . . . I'm wishing he'd come along earlier in my now-college-student's career. And I'm also thinking that I should be watching one video a day for the next eight years.
Even my 2nd and 3rd graders get a lot out of the basic-arithmetic videos. He's very common-sense and funny. And it really seems miraculous to me that something like this is available for free.
