First Wisteria Blooms

When it gets a little warmer these new wisteria blossoms will make the yard smell like a perfume factory. I pruned this bush rather severely last fall and it is filled with new growth and long hanging blooms. You can't keep an old wisteria down, can you?

I adore wisteria. I would love to have one, but I think I have way to much shade.

I would love to have one of those in my yard, but I heard that they can overtake it.

I inherited one that I wasn't even entirely sure was wisteria till this year. The past two seasons it's just been invasive and non-blooming, though it did look suspiciously like the wisteria climbing all over my next-door neighbor's house . . .

So last fall in disgust I hacked it way back, made a wreath for my back gate, and was floored when it (the remains of the vine, not the wreath or the gate) put forth a couple -- just a couple -- of blooms this spring. I'm hoping this is a sign of better things to come.

But yes, it can be very . . . assertive.

I should add for the record that the wisteria belonged to my neighbor first and then came to me, not vice versa! Otherwise, it'd be like letting your dog run free in other people's yards.
