The Art of Simplicity
"The ordinary arts
we practice every day
at home are of more
importance to the soul
than their simplicity
might suggest."
Thomas Moore
1779-1852
Isn't this illustration just perfect for the quote by Thomas Moore? I found it on Pinterest. You might want to learn more about this Irish poet, prose and lyrics writer in this biography here.

I absolutely believe in the gist of that quote. And I'm thinking the illustration is one of Susan Branch's. Love her work, both books and illustrations.
Mama Pea -- I searched the image with Google Lens and one of the choices was Susan Branch. It has an additional border in her newsletter:

Thanks for finding the original artist. xo, Rosemary
Since I wasn't familiar with Thomas Moore I read the entry for him on libraryireland.com that you linked to. His work was pretty impressive. The thing that impressed me the most I think, was the autobiography of Lord Byron that he had given to Moore. Because he was strapped for money, Moore sold the manuscript to Murray the publisher. Lady Byron and her family didn't want the autobiography published so they offered Murray the amount of money he had received for it in order to have the manuscript returned to them. Instead, Moore stepped in and bought it back from the publisher for almost $280,000 (plus interest?) and then turned right around and burned it!
He was already strapped for cash, but went beyond any duty he might've felt and did what he thought was honorable.
Can we please have more men like him today?
Susan Branch I do know and love her work.
What a lovely quote. I'm a person who treasures ordinary days.
Susan Branch has the best quotations and when coupled with her charming art, it makes for a very enjoyable read of her blog.

I meant to add that Susan Branch has wonderful cookbooks. I was able to order most of hers online. They are filled with her gorgeous art and whimsy. When we recently downsized, I kept every one of her cookbooks and only 3 others.
