I took quite a few photos of these young bluebirds and decided to show you more.
I didn't know they were bluebirds at first. They visited this site the day before these photos were taken and there was a lot more water in the bowl. They were quite skittish testing the depth of the water to make sure they wouldn't drown. The next day they took the plunge after the sun had evaporated the water to their preferred depth. This was thrilling to watch. I hope these juveniles come back and I'm sure they will. Have a great Monday. xo

We rarely see a bluebird in our locale. And I know I've never seen any juveniles so these pictures are great to see.
Our four "teenage" geese are like your bluebirds when testing out our pond. So far they've only gone wading, but we hope to see them get brave enough to actually swim soon!
Mama Pea -- Your geese sound very entertaining. It's fun to see them grow up, I'm sure! I don't see my bluebirds much since they left the nesting box. The Carolina Wren moved right in and I love them too. I'm sure your little guys will be swimming real soon!

After a young bird drowned in our birdbath, we have taken to putting a stone, about 4-5 inches in diameter, in the basin. I also discovered that adding pennies from before 1980 to the water decreases any algae growth. It's the copper that does it.
Stacey -- Thank you so much. I will go through my pennies right away. I have a much deeper birdbath. I shall find an appropriate stone for that one and add pennies too.
