I found an old Nikon photo I took in my back garden several years ago. This old gardening shovel has a cracked handle so I use it as a perch for the birds.

I do love old garden tools with wooden handles. Weathered and worn from much use throughout many seasons. I think about who's hands have used them to develop and tend throughout the years. These sturdy treasures are as much a part of gardening heritage as the gardens themselves.
And when they can no longer be used, this is the perfect retirement! To forever be a part of the garden which they have helped to create.
Your dear old shovel handle has so much character and looks perfectly placed. I hope you can capture a photo of a wee bird upon it some day :)
That garden is a weed patch right now but the cooler weather is giving me the strength to clean it up for fall. I always look for well worn, used garden tools at garage sales.
Well, it looks perfectly at home amongst your (temporary) weeds...which by the way are a pretty enough filler for your plot, until you can tend to it again soon. At least there is greenery and simple, humble flowers :)

Thank you. I bought the shovel years ago at the estate sale of an elderly lady I knew who was a fabulous gardener. It reminds me of her.
