The Changing Face of William Shakespeare

"Artist unknown, The Cobbe Portrait of William Shakespeare, ca. 1610, oil on panel. Collection of Archbishop Charles Cobbe (1686–1765); Cobbe Collection, Hatchlands Park."

In 2009, when the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in Stratford-upon-Avon unveiled a previously unknown portrait painting with strong claims to be the only surviving life-time portrait of William Shakespeare, it created an international sensation. The Jacobean painting had hung unrecognized for centuries in an Irish country house belonging to the Cobbe family. William Shakespeare's Family

Shakespeare Family

I learned so many things I did not know about Shakespeare's family life. When he married Anne Hathaway in 1582, he was 18 and she was 26!

Read more about his early life in this article.
Enjoy!

Anne Hathaway's Cottage, wife of Shakespeare

The cottage of William Shakespeare's wife, Anne Hathaway. This photo couldn't be lovelier, could it? via From the late 1580s, William Shakespeare started to divide his time between Stratford-upon-Avon and London; his family and professional lives. Shakespeare's wife and children remained in Stratford and he made most of his financial investments in his home town.

William Shakespeare's Birthday

I created this illustrated quote back in 2010 Via
Today is widely celebrated as William Shakespeare's 450th birthday but it's just a guesstimate according to Time Magazine. It's also a day for mourning for he died on this day too in 1616 at the age of 55.

William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon". Wikipedia
Born: 1564, Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom
Died: April 23, 1616, Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom

David Tennant reads Shakespeare's Sonnets

Shakespeare's Sonnets from Touch Press on Vimeo.
I could listen to his Scottish accent all day long. This is a Promo for Shakespeare's Sonnets. I wonder if all 154 sonnets will be available when this project is ready for iPad publication?

The Wisdom of Shakespeare

I love the graphic that illustrates this quote by William Shakespeare. Everything went well at my Certificate of Occupancy inspection today and the carpenter bee treatment. We had some fierce blowing rain late this afternoon and I had quite a time cleaning up my wet floors and windowsills. I had open windows all over the house and couldn't close them quickly enough. It really cooled things off for my after supper walk with the Wonder Dog.

I found a photo of the bedroom in the house where my new love seats once lived. I'm still over the moon with joy over them. Webster is still being a perfect gentleman and is respecting them too.

My tall brass lamps were once in the dining room of this lovely house.

Here are the furnishings in my cottage for those of you who missed my previous posts.
I think everything looks perfectly cozy at my house, don't you? Enjoy your Friday evening. I'll be stretching out on the love seat by the window pretty soon, watching my small television. I changed the artwork to the right of the window. See photo here. See you tomorrow. xo

Elizabethan insults created by Shakespeare . . .

Shakespearean Insult Generating Tool

See how Shakespeare would have insulted you with his clever Elizabethan quips of the day.

I saved a couple of his insults directed at me.

"[Thou] small grey coated gnat."
Taken from: Romeo and Juliet

"[Thou] stale old mouse eaten dry cheese!"
Taken from: Troilus and Cressida

Wonderful Shakespeare Quote

Still working on the house but can see light at the end of the tunnel. My days have been busy and long lately and I am so looking forward to a lazy Sunday morning to recharge my battery. I found this Shakespeare quote on Pinterest and I love it. My gift for the past two weeks has been teaching my painters things they didn't know and they are so very appreciative.
Have a great weekend.

Shakespeare Holiday Card | Free Download

"Health, peace, and sweet content be yours."
Shakespeare

This is my Christmas wish for you!

I made this holiday card years ago and it is my all-time favorite. It would be a great New Year's card as well. Actually it is a perfect winter card for any occasion. All you need is one sheet of card stock. After printing, fold in half and write your own personal message inside. It helps to score the paper first for a nice crisp edge. You can also turn the page around and run it through the printer again. Cut in half (I use a paper cutter) and you will have two large postcards or gift tags. My design uses only black ink so it is very economical to print, yet it's simply stunning!

Shakespeare Dream Interpretation Machine

The Folger Shakespeare Library has posted this fascinating online dream interpreter which is sadly no longer available. It provided a unique Renaissance-era dream interpretation. Rosemary
I',m always dreaming about building houses. That is a good thing, it signifies comfort. Hooray.

From mine own library with volumes that
I prize above my dukedom.”

Shakespeare. 1st Folio Book Tour. USA

I knew about this tour but didn't know when it was happening. Drew University in Madison was selected as the sole New Jersey location and will host the exhibit for a month during the fall of 2016.

Where will this exhibit be shown to your state? Check the full list here. Once you find out the location, you will be able to search for WHEN yourself as I did for Drew. You're welcome!
