The Husky and The Kitten

This is a great story about how a Husky nursed this kitten back to health. Read here. There are many heart-warming photos of Lilo and Rosey too. Love!

Tabitha's New Cat Cafe

I was feeling powerful yesterday and decided to tear apart my entrance vestibule to clean and declutter. Tabitha always wakes me up in the middle of the night to beg for food because Webster has stolen what I left out for her. I racked my brain trying to think of a new arrangement that would be dog proof and this is is what worked. When I woke up this morning she was already having breakfast and she was able to snack through the night so this setup worked like a charm. That's an old blue fleece pullover on the small bistro chair for sleeping. She needs the booster chair in order to be able to jump up on the makeshift table. The base is a heavy wire basket I use for firewood with a half-round piece of wood in old blue paint for the top. So far, so good. Her woven willow cat bed is in the room too on the floor as an alternate sleeping place.
Now my kitchen is destroyed and I have to work on it next. All the junk I took out of the vestibule needs new places to live and most will go to the basement and the garage. Some will be donated and other things will be put away for the winter. I have way too many scarves, hats, and gloves. Tabitha will be happier when I buy more cat food to fill up her jar as it's almost empty. A Costco run is on my list, maybe later day. Spring cleaning is progressing nicely here at the cottage and it feels good to be organized. UPDATE: I went to Costco and now Webster and Tabitha both have new giant bags of food. They have already sampled it and they both like what I brought home.
Happy Tax Day. Hope you all make the deadline. I'll stay away from the post office today. xo

Tabitha Enjoying a Cat Nap in the Sun

We have cloudy skies and a light rain this morning but Tabitha chases the sun's rays whenever she can. She's very happy that she can stay outside for longer and longer periods now that winter is on its way out. She has discovered some delicious patches of grass to eat that have been buried under deep snow for months and a little nibble is the perfect way to start her day. (my photo)

Now if she just had this lookout, her life would indeed be perfect. via

Happy Boxing Day

Boxing Day is a holiday traditionally celebrated the day following Christmas Day, when servants and tradespeople would receive gifts, known as a "Christmas box", from their bosses or employers, in the United Kingdom, Barbados, Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, South Africa, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and other former British colonies. Today, Boxing Day is the bank holiday that generally takes place on 26 December.

Hounds wait for their master’s orders during the traditional Boxing Day hunt, in Thurlow, Suffolk, UK by photographer Graham Barclay for Bloomberg News.

Cats take the holiday literally.

Alternate way to celebrate.

Such a Smart Cat.

Are you impressed? I certainly am. Never underestimate the intelligence of a cat. Mine never ceases to amaze me but she would rather sit outside my window and meow her head off until I open the front door for her. The hole in this fence was put there so the owner could reach through and unlock the fence. I wonder how long it took this kitty to figure it out as well? via
We are still having cool weather and my fleece feels good this morning. See you later.

Indoor and Outdoor Cats

Wow. Look at the size of the white one!
Which do you have?
Tabitha is both indoor and outdoor.
It's almost chilly outside tonight.
Webster and I just returned from a walk.
Good night -- sleep tight. xo

Adventures with Cats

Russian photographer Andy Prokh has documented his daughter, Katherine, as she grows up alongside two handsome felines. Such an adorable story. More photos here.

This Cat is A Helper

Dame Trott and her cat are companion characters to Old Mother Hubbard and her dog. The rhyme for this illustration is "She trotted once more for brandy and gin, when she came back, she was setting to spin." Dame Trott does errands and returns home each time to find her amazing cat doing household chores. How delightful. I want a cat that vacuums! via

Decoupage Plates

I love this fantastic decoupage plate by John Derian Company.

I have only one piece and it's signed on the back. There is some paint loss under the backing so it must have been a reject. I got it at a garage sale for 25 cents years ago. I don't know about you, but when I buy something I love at a local house sale, I can usually remember exactly where I bought it, what kind of day it was, the seller, and all sorts of other details. I bought this plate on a beautiful summer day and my mother was with me. The sale was in the driveway and garage of a lovely home. Friends and relatives of the owners brought their goods too, so there was a big variety of good stuff and junk. I hope they have another one this year!

Dogs afraid to pass the cat.

Click here if you can't see video below.

We have the same problem here at the cottage but it has gotten slightly better over the years. Webster and Tabitha go out together first thing in the morning. Tabitha likes to go first and swat Webster when he scoots by. She used to hiss too but doesn't anymore. Actually, lately she's not even swatting. She usually comes back first to eat. Webster won't come in the house unless I stand in front of her, as the cat food dish is in the vestibule. I'm happy to see this problem exists in other households too. Poor dogs, they are so respectfully cautious of the cats they live with, letting them rule the roost. Webster too.

Big Foot

My, what big paws you have, Tabitha. I had fun taking this picture while she napped on the sofa cushion. Have a great weekend. xo

Halloween Dogs Go Trick or Treating

I wish I had seen this yesterday. What a great image! If only we could see their faces. Do you think the cat opened the door? I hope these ghostly dogs got plenty of treats. xo via
