Inside and Outside: An Oceanfront Deck
I love the feeling of being inside and outside at the same time so I would choose to sit on the covered porch. The sun lovers can bake on the open deck. photo by pieter esterohn via architectural digest. Have a great weekend. Summer is finally here.

White Kitchens for Design Inspiration
White Kitchens for Design Inspiration from the archives of Architectural Digest: Click on link for a 23-photo slideshow. See preview below showing three kitchens I liked. All photos from AD magazine.
Decorator Karin Blake brought New England style to a home in Malibu, California. The large cabinet doors, featuring strap hinges and rat-tail pulls, are copies of ones Blake salvaged from a barn owned by the late actor George Montgomery. A circa 1890 cast-iron windmill weight, one of many pieces of Americana in the house, sits on the counter. (January 2008)
Decorator Darryl Carter is celebrated for his adept use of white (he even has his own line of predominantly neutral paints for Benjamin Moore), so it’s no surprise that he created a handsome ivory kitchen in a Washington, D.C., home he designed with architect Donald Lococo. Traditional cabinetry is enhanced by Calacatta gold marble counters and alabaster pendant lights, while reclaimed-oak beams add a rustic accent. (September 2012)
“White sets such a beautiful tone,” says decorator Suzanne Kasler of the color scheme she used in her refined Atlanta home, which she renovated with residential designer William T. Baker. The tile is by Waterworks, and the barstools are from Kasler’s line for Hickory Chair. Glass-front cabinets display tableware, while an adjacent wall of storage keeps other items out of sight. M. Night Shyamalan's Philadelphia Home

The filmmaker enlivens a storied 1930s Georgian Revival home near Philadelphia with a romantic array of English architectural styles. The new gatehouse frames a view of the original 1937 Georgian Revival residence on 125 acres. View the 18-photo Architectural Digest slideshow here. Read the article too.

An Amazing Kitchen | Architectural Digest
Antique beams crisscross a Nantucket kitchen. Painted diamonds span the wood floor (love, love love this detail), and the counters are butcher block. via Architectural Digest This kitchen is #6 of 13 in a slideshow on Rustic Kitchens. Click here to start at the beginning. One of the kitchens belongs to Diane Keaton.

Plaid Rooms | Architectural Digest
A couple with three teenage sons looked to Elissa Cullman to make their new house in Colorado ski country cozy but not clichéd. The “mountainy theme-park look, with antlers everywhere,” as the homeowner puts it, was not going to work. For the main living area of the attached barn, Cullman devised a fresh Western look with a jolt of color provided by red tartan sofas. (June 2010) Photo: David O. Marlow
“I think of my home as my showplace,” says Glasgow art dealer Anthony Ferrie, but, he adds, “comfort can never be secondary.” He outfitted his bedroom in a blue-and-white palette (he finds the two colors very restful); the plaid curtains and regal framed prints lend the space a cosseted atmosphere. (September 2006) Photo: Durston Saylor
See more plaid rooms in the December 2011 edition of Architectural Digest.

A Heavenly Home and Garden Tour in Belgium
A Heavenly Home and Garden in Belgium Exploring this estate in the Belgian countryside is like looking through a kaleidoscope: Every turn brings a transformation.

The property’s 17th-century dovecote was once used as an observation post during the Dutch Revolt.
I don't want to spoil your tour with any more photos before you view the entire slideshow. I love the simplicity of the interior furnishings that allow the architecture be the star of the show.
Read the accompanying article from Architectural Digest here.

Perfect Symmetry in France
Aix-en-Provence, France
11 bedrooms, 8.5 baths, 6,450 sq. ft., $22 million
11 bedrooms, 8.5 baths, 6,450 sq. ft., $22 million
Pedigree: Situated amid a nature preserve just minutes from the city center, this stately vineyard château was constructed over the course of the 17th and 18th centuries for French nobility. Its historic interiors have yet to be restored, but the formal gardens are poised for leisurely promenades, thanks to the scenic axes, symmetrical boxwood parterres, and romantic fountains.
Property Values: An orangerie, chapel, stable turned garage, and caretaker’s house also occupy the 57-acre grounds, more than half of which are planted with government-certified vines with an annual 100,000-bottle yield of red and rosé.

White Kitchen to Love
I like it, don't you? Just white and stainless steel with natural wood. Splashes of color via the rug, cookware, food and spices. I could cook up a storm in this room. Image via Architectural Digest.

Chic Paris Apartments
French interior designer Pierre Yovanovitch’s duplex overlooks one of Paris’s most exclusive addresses: the Élysée Palace, once home to Mme. de Pompadour and now the official residence of the French president. “The view is the highlight of the apartment,” he remarks. A window in the master bedroom, above, frames the Eiffel Tower perfectly. In this room, the designer lined the walls with Italian brown cashmere and opted for dark colors and darker woods to bring a sense of intimacy to the space. The watercolor of lions (circa 1920) is by Paul Jouve. (Published in Architectural Digest September 2004)
