Some of their assignments are terribly complicated.
xo, RosemaryContent in a Cottagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10075511188721176895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7823162730236792476.post-2497564171214029762019-12-01T22:37:21.168-05:002019-12-01T22:37:21.168-05:00That cake looks scrumptious, Rosemary! This will help American cooks convert Mary Barry's recipe.
xo, RosemaryContent in a Cottagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10075511188721176895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7823162730236792476.post-31403171406201624032019-12-01T12:35:09.529-05:002019-12-01T12:35:09.529-05:00Rosemary, metric is easier in some ways. It's worth noting that UK and US imperial measurements aren't the same - we have 16oz to a pound and 20oz to a pint - The saying "a pint's a pound the world around" is not true! Also remember when baking our flour is unbleached - you cannot buy bleached flour in Europe and we also tend to use caster sugar for baking here in the UK as it gives a finer crumb. So all you really have to measure is spoons and liquids. So weighing is more efficient too. Nice bonus. Yes, I have notice more and more American recipes with measures in weights. We haven't switched to metrics yet !!!
xo, RosemaryContent in a Cottagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10075511188721176895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7823162730236792476.post-1305902408335194092019-12-01T11:50:45.805-05:002019-12-01T11:50:45.805-05:00KMKlump -- Yes, Americans are starting to weigh th...KMKlump -- Yes, Americans are starting to weigh the ingredients and it's supposed to be more accurate.
xo, RosemaryContent in a Cottagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10075511188721176895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7823162730236792476.post-49066303025213737182019-12-01T11:49:26.220-05:002019-12-01T11:49:26.220-05:00Mama Pea -- I know. I hope you will make one for yourself. Lately, I've wanted chocolate cake (and I'm not even particularly fond of cake!) and now you post this. Oh, my. I must not look at your picture any longer. Sigh. ;o]Mama Peahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03649357184167949247noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7823162730236792476.post-46252812172151742412019-12-01T04:12:50.445-05:002019-12-01T04:12:50.445-05:00I'm from the UK so weighing ingredients is sec...I'm from the UK so weighing ingredients is second nature here. A set of scales are as cheap as chips in the US - Amazon have some for as little as $12 and they're worth the investment. I've also noticed that many American baking blogs are moving away from cups to using scales.Lesleychttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18038376033790586862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7823162730236792476.post-81649177120261690952019-11-30T15:57:57.887-05:002019-11-30T15:57:57.887-05:00Looks delicious!
