Catalpa Tree Blossoms at My Cottage

I took a walk all the way to the rear of my property after dinner and the light was perfect for flower photography.

Some of the limbs on this Catalpa tree are so low I have to duck when I am mowing on my riding mower. After the blossoms quit, I will cut the lowest branches back for safety. The tree is huge and so are the leaves.

The flowers look like little orchids. Catalpas are very old fashioned trees. In the fall they have giant long seed pods. Every year, I marvel at them when they bloom. Have a great Sunday evening. xo

How beautiful they are. They look a bit like irises to me.

Catalpas always bring back wonderful memories for me. My grandma and grandpa had two huge catalpa trees on either side of their front lawn. As kids we could create all kinds of games with the long pods when they were mature. Thanks for the lovely reminder this morning.

We've never had a Catalpa, but those blooms are gorgeous. They really do remind me of orchids!

I have never seen Catalpa trees in person & agree with Lisa that the blooms look a bit like iris's. I also love your mowed path in the background. I have woods on my property, but it is mostly on steep banks, so grass & a path are out of the question...but I love the intriguing look of a path leading to a hidden spot ahead.

...all is grace!

Lisa D. and Anita ~ the cabin on the creek -- I agree, the catalpa blossoms do look like irises in many ways. Anita, I have a slope that I do not mow looking from the catalpa tree to my house. I could mow it with my previous mower but I haven't gotten the nerve to mow it with my smaller riding mower. So I mow on either side and leave the middle for my man with the big tractor to mow several times a year. I love mowing my flat spot in the way back.

Beautiful blooms! I’ve never heard of that tree.
Hopefully the flowers last if you cut some for your cottage! 🤗
