Andrew Wyeth Watercolor of a Cottage

Andrew Wyeth
Messersmith’s
Dimensions: 24 X 19.5 in (60.96 X 49.53 cm)
Medium: watercolor and pencil on paper

I like that he included the electric meter and the other meter. Maybe it's gas but I doubt it. The sky at my cottage today looks just like this. Happy November first. xo

Lovely painting! And our sky out here looks the same too. I love a moody rainy sky on the 1st. :) Cozy time. Kit

Wyeths always have a certain haunting quality about them, very recognizable, yet hard to put your finger on. There is an acknowledgement that someone lives here, perhaps is inside, yet you don't see them. Any good painting has an air of mystery to it, and he invokes this well, while superficially presenting a simple, literal translation of a scene. He brings out the beauty in things without making things pretty.

This looks like the farm home of my early childhood. My little brother and I loved playing on the front porch. Wyeth's attention to detail is amazing!
