Snow, Books, and A Dog

When I got up this morning I saw a rather normal overnight snowfall and breathed a sigh of relief. Since then another foot has been added but thankfully we never got the high winds that were predicted. The weather people are saying it will soon be over though it's still falling pretty heavily. All in all, I feel very lucky. I've shoveled the walk several times trying to keep up since it's heavy and wet. After I took the first shot through the screen in my bedroom I pointed the camera upward to snap a couple of the bookshelves. I love fine leather bindings. Webster enjoyed cleaning the yogurt container. He always closes his eyes when something is super delicious. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Rosemary and Webster

Shopping For New Eyeglasses

I blogged recently about wanting new frames the next time I have my eyes examined and get a new prescription. These cat-eye frames being worn by a dog are NOT on my list. :-)

Wonderful Nature Photography

A 6-day-old sheep relaxes with its mother, Mana, at the Saitama Children's Zoo near Tokyo.

George the great blue heron flies over the Russian River in Guerneville, Calif.

I found a great animal slideshow for your viewing pleasure from MSNBC. Here. Have fun looking at animals from all over the world. Some are quite poignant. Enjoy, be inspired, and share. Rosemary

Film About The Making Of A Book

I hope you enjoy watching this film as much as I did. From the discovery of the 1898 International Dictionary to linotyping the entries to printing the last print on the vandercook to cutting the fingertabs of the deluxe edition, this video gives a quick overview of the process of creating the Pictorial Webster's fine press edition.

Order the book. $35.00 Pictorial Webster's - A Visual Dictionary of Curiosities with 1,500 black and white images. It's simply beautiful.

Want the hand-made edition? It will cost you $2,600 for the least-expensive version. Read a great article about the making of the Dictionary in the Boston Globe here.

Suggested by one of my blog readers. Thanks Victoria.

Pain Nourishes Courage

This is so true. The pain you've endured in life helps you to bravely cope with adversity. Parents can't protect their children from everything no matter how hard they try.

Wine Cellar Hatch in Kitchen

A see-thru hatch door in the kitchen floor that opens to a combination spiral staircase / wine storage room / wine cellar. How very novel and interesting. Beautiful too. Available from: http://www.spiralcellars.co.uk/

Dogs Are Not Good Painter's Helpers

I can just hear it now, "Madam, please remove your dog." Hopefully this would be the case rather than crash, splash. My living room ceiling needs to be painted because of one blemish that drives me crazy in a certain light. It's not a leak or anything...just something I tried to fix myself and succeeded in making it worse. I have plaster ceilings. I don't know that I'll ever have it done since painting is my least favorite thing in the whole wide world, either done by me or hired out. It is so disruptive. But well worth the effort once it's done. Here's hoping you get the first day of the work week off to a good start. Rosemary

This is one of my favorite photos ever from Pixdaus

Great Valentine For A Birder

I have been trying to weed out some photos saved to my computer. I just ran across this one and though it was nice. It would be a great valentine to give to a birder. Don't forget to feed your fine feathered friends, especially if you got a lot of snow.

Amazing English House and Garden

England is without a doubt the best place to see amazing old houses with beautiful gardens. I always loved walking around peeking into private spaces. Especially on a misty day. People were always looked puzzled when I told them their back yards were beautiful. They would always say...Oh, you must mean the garden.

Amazing Library

I have no idea where this is. It is absolutely an amazing building full of books. Bookstore? Library? University? What? Where? Private? Public? I'd love to be turned loose there to browse to my heart's content. Actually the velum bindings on the table would be perfect to start with. True happiness exists within those walls. Have a nice Sunday. Rosemary
